Two Dungeons & Dragons PC Titles Return This August

Hasbro and SNEG will release two Dungeons & Dragons titles, Dragonshard and Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone, on PC via Steam in mid-August. Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard, originally launched in 2005, features improved resolution support, localization-friendly saves, and enhancements for modern PCs. It combines real-time strategy and RPG elements in the world of Eberron, allowing players to command troops and explore dungeons. The game includes a narrative by Keith Baker, a dual-layered gameplay experience, diverse unit control, unit progression through experience points, the "Nexus System" for strategic building placement, three distinct factions, and dynamic environments with real-time terrain deformation. Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone, first released in 2004, will have smoother start-ups, widescreen scaling, and full controller support. Players will control a Fighter, Sorcerer, and Rogue in a quest to reclaim the Demon Stone. The game features accessible combat styles, a narrative by R.A. Salvatore, voice performances by Patrick Stewart and Michael Clarke Duncan, various environments, iconic Dungeons & Dragons creatures, and a range of combo moves and skill upgrades.

You can finally run Doom and other graphical apps in Android’s Linux Terminal

The July 2025 Android Canary build of the Linux Terminal app introduces the ability to run graphical Linux applications, allowing users to interact with a graphical interface via a new “Display” button. By typing ‘weston’, users can access a graphical environment with Weston preinstalled. Users can also enable hardware acceleration by creating an empty file named virglrenderer in the /sdcard/linux directory, which enhances performance for running demanding Linux software. The feature is currently available in the Canary build, with speculation about its rollout to Beta or Stable channels in the second quarterly release of Android 16, expected in December.

Microsoft fixes bug behind incorrect Windows Firewall errors

Microsoft has resolved an issue causing erroneous Windows Firewall notifications after rebooting Windows 11 24H2 systems, particularly with the June 2025 preview update. This fix is included in the KB5062660 preview cumulative update released on Tuesday and will be more widely available with the August Patch Tuesday updates. The issue, acknowledged on July 3rd, was linked to a new feature in development and resulted in misleading Event Viewer messages (event 2042) indicating 'Config Read Failed.' Microsoft clarified that these messages did not reflect actual problems with Windows Firewall. An apology was issued on July 8th after mistakenly declaring the issue resolved. Additionally, Microsoft has addressed other recent issues, including invalid 0x80070643 failure errors during April 2025 WinRE updates and incorrect BitLocker drive encryption errors affecting managed Windows environments.
