Conor MacNeill, a game development professor at Niagara College, highlights the excitement of students presenting their capstone projects at the Welland campus library. The game development program has grown from about a dozen graduates to a large community, now including collaborations with Brock University. Students are now creating VR games, a significant development compared to the program's early years. First-year student Mark Lampman and fourth-year student Dante Bell showcase their projects, with Bell's team, Slugworks, presenting a game called "Green Thing from the Planet Jupiter." This game features a competitive chase between a green alien and a cat, requiring significant time commitment from the team. The GDLaunch event has evolved, with students actively promoting their games through various marketing strategies. Approximately 25 alumni attended, many looking to hire graduates. The gaming industry is expected to grow through 2027, providing promising opportunities for students. After GDLaunch, 64 graduates attended the Level Up Showcase in Toronto, where their game won second place for Achievement in Audio. The event attracted around 5,000 attendees, showcasing the innovation and dedication of the students.

Threat actors are exploiting Windows Remote Management (WinRM) to navigate through Active Directory environments stealthily, allowing them to bypass detection systems, escalate privileges, and deploy malicious payloads. WinRM operates on HTTP port 5985 and HTTPS port 5986, enabling remote command execution and management tasks. Attackers can gain access through compromised credentials and use WinRM-enabled PowerShell commands for reconnaissance, deploying payloads while evading detection. The attack chain includes initial access, reconnaissance, payload deployment, persistence, and lateral movement, often utilizing techniques that obfuscate malicious activities. Detecting such attacks is challenging due to the use of built-in Windows functionalities and encrypted channels. Recommended mitigation strategies include monitoring for unusual activity, restricting WinRM access, enforcing credential hygiene, and implementing advanced monitoring solutions.

Huawei introduced its Matebook Pro 2025 laptops, powered by the Kirin X90 system-on-chip (SoC) developed by its HiSilicon subsidiary. The Kirin X90 features a 10-core layout (4+4+2) with 20 threads and is expected to utilize a combination of Taishan V121 architecture for prime cores, Taishan V120 for performance cores, and a standard Cortex design for efficiency cores. The Matebook Pro operates on HarmonyOS, a new operating system independent of Linux and Android, allowing Huawei to reduce reliance on Microsoft. The Kirin X90 is anticipated to be manufactured using SMIC's 7nm process node, which may limit its performance. The success of HarmonyOS will depend on developers transitioning existing applications to the platform. The Matebook Pro is set to be released on May 19.

Google's Pixel Watch companion app has transitioned to a light theme, moving away from its previous dark aesthetics. This change has been rolled out via a server-side update, with users noticing the new vibrant white backdrop on their Android devices. There is no option to toggle between themes in the app settings, indicating that the update was implemented without user intervention. The last official app update was version 3.4, released in April. The app operates independently of the phone's theme settings. Earlier this year, Pixel Studio also adopted a light theme, while the Clock app remains dark. The Pixel Watch is expected to receive a significant operating system update, possibly introducing Wear OS 6 based on Android 16, during the Google I/O 2025 event, but it will continue to run on Android 15 for now.
