Is the newly announced Steam Machine finally enough to push fighting game tournaments to use PC?

The fighting game community has long desired a shift from consoles to PCs for major tournaments, but this change has not yet occurred on a large scale. Valve recently introduced its Steam Machine systems, which may encourage tournament organizers to adopt PCs. The PlayStation 5 has been the dominant console in competitive gaming for five years, but players have reported issues such as overheating and input lag. While many competitors use PCs for personal setups due to advantages like reduced lag, barriers to widespread adoption remain, including hardware consistency challenges. Apex Legends Season 27 massively buffs three characters, but devs promise “Octane has not been forgotten”

Apex Legends Season 27 will feature a significant revamp of the Olympus map, the official integration of the 'supergliding' movement mechanic, and various weapon adjustments. Instead of introducing a new character, three legends—Horizon, Valkyrie, and Rampart—will be reworked due to their low pick rates. Valkyrie will receive reduced cooldowns, increased flight speed, and an upgraded ultimate ability called Super Sonic. Horizon will have a reduced cooldown on her Gravity Lift and an enhanced Black Hole ultimate. Rampart's rework will focus on her defensive capabilities, including walls with roofs for protection and benefits for teammates behind them. Octane will not be reworked this season despite a recent decline in his pick rate. Respawn Entertainment plans to improve transparency regarding their character adjustment decisions. Season 27 is set to launch on November 4.

Assetto Corsa Rally features fully laser-scanned courses, Unreal Engine 5 visuals, and it’s out in early access on November 13

Kunos Simulazioni is developing a rally game titled Assetto Corsa Rally in partnership with Supernova Games, which will be released in early access on Steam on November 13. The game features laser-scanned stages, a first for rally games, aiming for high authenticity in replicating real-life stages. It will include a diverse lineup of vehicles from the 1960s to modern models, including Group B vehicles. At launch, players can explore two locations: Alsace, France, and Hafren, Wales.

Another Shadow Drop?! SNK Surprise Releases Kizuna Encounter: Super Tag Battle at Evo France

On September 27, SNK unveiled the Neo Geo Premium Selection at the Tokyo Game Show, introducing modern enhancements to classic titles. The first release under this initiative was Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers. At Evo France, SNK announced the second title, Kizuna Encounter: Super Tag Battle, which is now available on Steam. Kizuna Encounter: Super Tag Battle features a roster of ten characters, allowing players to form teams of two and includes unique tagging mechanics. The game supports rollback netcode, 9-player multiplayer lobbies, tournament and spectator modes, a practice mode with speed selectors and a hitbox viewer, a jukebox for the soundtrack, and achievements. I tested Secretlab’s new pro gamer gaming chair armrests and somehow I still haven’t won a tournament

2XKO is coming out of closed beta much sooner than expected, opening the floodgate for PC players next month

2XKO, formerly known as Project L, will enter early access on October 7, following a closed beta phase. Initially, early access will be limited to PC users, while PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S players will have to wait for a later date. The early access phase marks the start of 'Season 0' and introduces the game's 10th champion, whose identity is not yet revealed. Items obtained during early access will carry over to the full game. Riot Games plans to introduce five additional seasons by 2026, each featuring a new champion and cosmetic rewards. 2XKO will debut at EVO France after the early access launch, with Riot contributing funds to the prize pools of 22 upcoming tournaments, reflecting their commitment to community engagement in the competitive gaming scene.
