Microsoft has updated its Copilot app for Windows, now claiming it is a native XAML application. The update is being rolled out to Windows Insiders via the Microsoft Store and introduces a side panel for conversations and a history list for previous interactions. This native version allows Copilot to access the operating system more effectively, enabling users to ask device-specific questions and receive tailored responses. The app previously functioned as a wrapper around a website and is now designed to provide a more integrated experience. A shortcut key, Alt + Space, was introduced for users without a dedicated Copilot key. The update will be gradually rolled out across all Insider Channels, with general availability expected in the coming weeks, pending successful testing. Currently, the app's capabilities for direct interaction with a user's PC are limited, but future developments may enhance its functionality.

Microsoft has updated Windows Copilot to fix a vulnerability that allowed the AI assistant to inadvertently help users bypass licensing protocols for its operating system. The update prevents Copilot from recommending third-party tools that could facilitate piracy. Although Windows 11 activations are still available online, the AI assistant will no longer promote these options. This change reflects Microsoft's commitment to regulating AI-generated content. Since its launch in November 2023, Copilot has undergone discussions about updates and redesigns, including a visual overhaul in October 2024 to improve interaction with online and local content. The update aims to enhance Copilot's competitiveness against other AI assistants like X's Grok, Google Gemini, and OpenAI's ChatGPT, ensuring that it does not facilitate security bypassing.

Microsoft is rolling out updates for Copilot+ PCs, including a new AI feature called Super Resolution in the Photos app for Windows 11 version 24H2 on Snapdragon X PCs. This feature enhances image size and resolution. Upcoming capabilities like Click To Do and the Recall feature are expected to be released to Insiders this month. Windows 11 version 24H2 has improved the update process, making updates up to 45% faster to install, with restart times improving by nearly 40% and consuming up to 25% less CPU resources. Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit highlighted the second-generation Oryon CPUs, which offer enhanced single-core performance while consuming 57% less power compared to the first generation. There is anticipation for the next generation of Snapdragon X processors, but there is a need for software developers to optimize for Arm architecture.
