Microsoft says you should pause Windows 11 Updates when you need to work, as it tests greater controller

Microsoft is shifting its approach to Windows updates, responding to user frustrations about receiving update notifications during critical work hours. The company is currently testing more nuanced controls for updates with Windows Insiders, including a "Pick a date" feature that allows users to pause updates for up to 35 days, with the option to extend the pause indefinitely. Retail Windows 11 users can pause updates for up to five weeks, after which updates will automatically download without further pause options. Microsoft acknowledges that the frequency of updates can disrupt workflows for its 1.6 billion users, many of whom view mandatory updates as interruptions. The time required for updates has increased due to larger cumulative update packages, which can exceed 4GB, and the complexity of the operating system. To improve user control, Microsoft is testing a new power menu that separates update and shutdown options, allowing users to power down without installing updates. Additionally, updates will now include device class information in their titles for better user awareness. These changes aim to streamline the update experience and address long-standing user complaints.

‘After fairytale’ adventure game Fables of Dwale announced for PC

Survival RPG Outward 2 will run just fine on ‘potato’ settings, and as proof, here’s testimony from an actual potato

Outward 2, the sequel to Nine Dots' survival RPG, is set to launch in early access on July 17. The game is designed to run on a wide range of systems, maintaining visual quality even at lower settings. Maximum settings require a GeForce RTX 4080 and 32 GB of RAM, while medium settings can be played with a GTX 3060 and 16 GB of RAM. The "potato" settings can run on a GTX 750 Ti and 8 GB of RAM at 30 FPS. However, caution is advised when handling the EFI partition, as mistakes can prevent the operating system from booting.

Microsoft confirms patching issues in restricted Windows networks

Microsoft has issued a service alert indicating that customers in restricted network environments may encounter Windows Update failures, specifically error code 0x80010002, after installing the January 2026 optional non-security preview updates. Affected devices might download the February monthly Windows security update but could struggle with updates released in March and beyond due to changes in download timeout requirements. Microsoft is working on a resolution, and IT administrators can use Known Issue Rollback (KIR) as a workaround by configuring the appropriate Group Policy for their Windows version. A device restart is required to apply these settings. Historical issues include a bug fixed in April 2025 affecting WSUS installations and another issue resolved in August 2025 related to the Windows 11 24H2 cumulative update. Additionally, a KIR fix was provided for a known issue causing the May 2026 Windows 11 security update to fail with error code 0x800f0922.
