It’s Patch Tuesday and There Are Some Changes

Microsoft has released its monthly quality updates for all supported versions of Windows 11 on the second Tuesday of October. This update marks the first Patch Tuesday update for Windows 11 version 26H2 and the end of support for version 24H2. Cumulative update KB5127648 is available for Windows 11 versions 24H2, 25H2, and 26H2, upgrading them to builds 26100.9711, 26200.9711, or 26300.9711. Key features include enhancements to File Explorer, support for Emoji 17.0, a new Tips widget, personalization improvements, an Accessibility setting for maximizing apps, precision touchpad functionality improvements, enhanced configuration options for the Copilot key, upgrades to the Windows Recovery Environment, and changes to Windows Backup. Windows 11 version 26H1 will receive cumulative update KB5127646, advancing it to build 28000.3231. This update features a redesigned Taskbar, a revamped Start menu, a new Windows Search experience, performance improvements in File Explorer, modernized progress indicators, Administrator Protection, and enhancements to the Get Started app.

The dream of running GTA V natively on Android just died

The GTA V Android port project has been shut down by parent company Take-Two Interactive with a cease-and-desist letter, ending hopes of a native and optimized version of the game on Android phones. The project aimed to run the game natively on ARM hardware, but relied on leaked source code and violated strict modding policies, leading to its closure on October 3, 2026. The project's source code will not be released publicly to avoid further legal issues. This leaves emulation and cloud streaming as the only options for mobile gamers to play GTA V on their Android phones.

Microsoft Edge update adds Apple sign-in and scam protection, but officially ends Edge Drop and real-time video translation

Microsoft is removing a legacy Windows feature that has been around for 25 years

WMIC, a utility for IT administrators introduced in Windows XP in 2001, will be removed from Windows 11 after August 2026. It has been deprecated since 2016 and was previously removed from Windows 10 in 2021. Although it remained available as a Feature on Demand, it was disabled by default in new installations. Recent Preview builds for Windows 11 confirmed that WMIC will not be included in version 26H2. PowerShell is suggested as a prominent replacement for WMIC tasks.
