AI may be coming to Windows 11’s Clock app as Microsoft turns it into a focus tool

The upcoming Focus feature in the Windows Clock app includes enhancements aimed at improving user productivity, such as integration with Tasks, a visually appealing interface, analytics on focus sessions, and customization options. It will leverage the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) in newer Windows PCs, particularly enhancing the Insights feature, although the NPU page in the test version is mainly for debugging. An Insights page for focus sessions is under development, and initial tests show the new app consumes nearly double the RAM of its predecessor. Minecraft 26.2 Snapshot 5 Adds Sulfur Cube Explosive Archetype, Geysers and More

In Minecraft 26.2 Snapshot 5, Mojang introduced explosive Sulfur Cubes that can absorb TNT blocks, transforming into volatile entities. When ignited by fire or Redstone, they have a 6-second fuse, while explosions can trigger a random fuse time of 0.75 to 3 seconds. Once primed, they are immune to damage, and the TNT block cannot be harvested with shears. Additionally, Potent Sulfur blocks can interact with water and magma to produce geysers that launch water particles and nearby entities into the air. Hoglins have been reclassified as hostile and will no longer spawn in Peaceful mode. New sound effects accompany the geysers and Sulfur Spikes. To create an Explosive Sulfur Cube, a Sulfur Cube must absorb a TNT block, and geysers are produced when a Potent Sulfur block is placed above a Magma block or submerged under 1-4 water source blocks within a Sulfur Pool.

Minecraft 26.2 Snapshot 5

The 26.2 Snapshot 5 introduces several new features, including an explosive archetype for the Sulfur Cube and the addition of erupting Geysers formed by Potent Sulfur. The new Sulfur Cube archetype, called Explosive, shares properties with the Regular archetype but has higher air drag and can absorb TNT blocks. When primed, absorbed TNT has a fuse time of 6 seconds when ignited by fire or Redstone, and a randomized fuse time between 0.75 and 3 seconds when primed by an explosion. Sulfur Cubes with absorbed TNT cannot be picked up or damaged, and no Small Sulfur Cubes will spawn upon explosion. Potent Sulfur creates Geysers when placed above a Magma block and under water, sending water particles skyward at random intervals. Various adjustments have been made to mob hitboxes, and Hoglins are now classified as hostile and will not spawn on Peaceful difficulty. New sounds for Geyser eruptions have been added, and Touchscreen Mode has been removed. The Data Pack version is now 104.0, and the Resource Pack version is 86.2. New particles related to Geysers have been introduced, and several bugs have been fixed in this update.

Dial up the chaos in testing

Vanquish has seen a 34.8% increase in peak players on Steam over the past month, with an additional 16 players engaging with the game, and a 52.9% rise in average daily player count, equating to 26 more players each day. The game is currently available at a 70% discount. Historical data shows that spikes in player activity for Vanquish have occurred periodically, particularly in September 2024, September 2025, and February of this year.

I investigated Windows 11’s massive 5GB monthly .msu updates. AI is only part of the problem.

Windows 11 updates have significantly increased in size, with monthly cumulative updates often exceeding 4GB and some approaching 5GB. One update can expand to nearly 9GB when extracted. Microsoft has shifted to delivering Latest Cumulative Updates (LCUs), which include all previous fixes, leading to larger update sizes over time. The introduction of Checkpoint Cumulative Updates aims to reduce this growth by establishing periodic baselines, but the effectiveness has been mixed. The May 2025 cumulative update saw a size increase from approximately 6.5GB to nearly 9GB, with new MSIX files related to semantic search and on-device AI contributing to this growth. Windows Update uses applicability logic to minimize download sizes for users, but enterprises must download full packages, resulting in increased storage costs. The average yearly storage cost for enterprises rose from about 11 GB in 2024 to 52 GB by 2026. Users can check their actual download sizes through the Windows Update settings and Event Viewer logs.
