Microsoft Edge’s latest update is all about what you lose — but one removal is actually a good thing

The latest update of Microsoft Edge, version 146.0.3856.59, officially retires the Collections feature, preventing users from adding new items but allowing them to export saved content to Favorites. Edge version 150 will be the last compatible release for macOS 12 (Monterey), requiring users to upgrade to macOS 13 (Ventura) or later. The update also transitions Workspaces to an improved V2 architecture, migrating data from OneDrive/SharePoint to Edge Sync, while removing collaboration and sharing functionalities. Users will no longer be able to create a custom primary password starting with Edge 146, and this feature will be phased out by June 4, 2026, transitioning to device authentication. Additionally, passwords will not be included in the items cleared when deleting browsing data, addressing user concerns about unintentional deletions. Password management remains accessible through edge://settings/autofill/passwords.

Windows 11 uses five letters of your email for the user folder, but Microsoft is fixing it

A recent update in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.8068 allows users to customize their User folder name during the out-of-box experience (OOBE). This feature enables users to input a folder name of their choice on the Device Name page, with names allowed up to 16 Unicode characters. If users do not select a name, the system will revert to the default naming scheme derived from the first five letters of their Microsoft email address. Previously, changing the User folder name required using the Command Prompt, which was not user-friendly. The update is aimed at improving the setup experience for new Windows users.

Stop Everything and Save Your Instagram Messages Before They’re No Longer Private

Meta will cease to protect private direct messages on Instagram, discontinuing end-to-end encryption (E2EE) effective after May 8, 2026. Users are advised to download their data to avoid losing access to their message history. Those currently using E2EE can transition to standard messaging and export their messages, but must update their app to do so. Microsoft to Block Windows 11 and Server 2025 Automated Installation After Critical RCE Vulnerability

Microsoft is implementing a two-phase initiative to disable the hands-free deployment feature in Windows Deployment Services (WDS) due to a critical remote code execution vulnerability (CVE-2026-0386) identified on January 13, 2026. This vulnerability arises from improper access control related to the Unattend.xml file, which is transmitted over an unauthenticated RPC channel, allowing attackers on the same network segment to exploit it. Successful exploitation could grant SYSTEM-level privileges and compromise OS deployment images. The initiative includes: - Phase 1 (January 13, 2026): The hands-free deployment feature will remain operational but can be disabled. New Event Log alerts and registry key controls will be introduced to enforce secure practices. - Phase 2 (April 2026): The hands-free deployment feature will be completely disabled by default for administrators who have not modified registry settings. Administrators can temporarily re-enable the feature by setting AllowHandsFreeFunctionality = 1, but this is not secure. Recommendations include reviewing WDS configurations, applying security updates, setting registry keys for secure behavior, monitoring Event Viewer for alerts, and considering alternative deployment methods.
