The Amazon Appstore, introduced in March 2011 for Android phones and tablets, will be discontinued for Android devices on August 20, 2025. Users will no longer be able to download or install applications from the Appstore on Android devices, and there is no guarantee that previously installed apps will continue to function after this date. The Appstore will remain operational for Fire Tablet and Fire TV devices. Users could previously synchronize app purchases across devices, but this feature will end with the discontinuation. The Appstore initially offered a "free app of the day" promotion, and many users may have older paid apps linked to their Amazon accounts, which will only be accessible via Amazon Fire devices after August. Amazon is allowing a six-month period for users to adapt and cancel subscriptions tied to the Appstore. Additionally, Amazon is phasing out Amazon Coins, with purchases ending on February 20, 2025, but users can use remaining balances until August 20, 2025, after which unspent Coins will be refunded.

A malicious Android spyware application named 'BMI CalculationVsn' was discovered on the Amazon Appstore, disguised as a health tool. Researchers at McAfee Labs identified the app, which was siphoning data from infected devices without users' knowledge, and alerted Amazon, leading to its removal. Users who installed the app must manually uninstall it and scan their devices for any remaining spyware. The app, published by 'PT Visionet Data Internasional,' initially appeared as a user-friendly BMI calculator but secretly activated a screen recording service and collected sensitive information, including SMS messages and one-time passwords. The app first appeared on October 8 and underwent modifications throughout the month. This incident highlights vulnerabilities in app stores and emphasizes the need for users to be cautious when downloading applications and to review app permissions carefully. Keeping Google Play Protect activated is recommended for enhanced security.

The Channel 4 streaming app has been launched on Android TV, allowing users to access Channel 4 content directly from devices like Chromecast, Google TV Streamer, and Nvidia Shield TV. Previously, the app was only available on Android smartphones and tablets, and users had to rely on third-party applications or casting from mobile devices. The app's user interface is similar to that of the Kindle Fire TV version, enabling seamless streaming of live content. Upon launching the app on a Google TV Streamer, the framerate adjusts to the European 50Hz standard, aligning with UK broadcast standards. The app is currently not mentioned on Channel 4's support pages for Android TV, suggesting further updates may be coming. Users can download the Channel 4 app from the Google Play Store.

The Xbox app will be available in July, requiring a compatible Bluetooth controller to play games on Fire TV devices.
