Windows 11’s useless Copilot key finally does something, you can map it to right-click

Recent updates from Microsoft allow users to remap the Copilot key on Windows 11 to either the Right Ctrl key or the Context Menu key. This feature is part of the Release Preview Build 26100.9539 for 24H2 and 26200.9539 for 25H2, rolled out on September 10, 2026. Users can access this remapping option under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Keyboard. The Copilot key was introduced in January 2024 but received criticism for being cumbersome. Microsoft acknowledged the challenges posed by the Copilot key, particularly for users relying on the Right Ctrl or Context Menu keys for shortcuts and assistive technologies. If remapped to the Right Ctrl key, certain shortcut combinations may not function as expected. The feature is expected to be fully rolled out on October 12, 2026.

Microsoft warns that killing VBScript could break Windows activation for businesses

Microsoft is phasing out VBScript and urging organizations to transition to PowerShell. The Slmgr.vbs tool, used for managing Windows activation, will lose functionality as VBScript is deprecated. Slmgr.vbs allows users to install product keys, activate Windows, and check licensing status. VBScript will soon only be available as a Feature on Demand, requiring manual installation in future updates. PowerShell's OSLicense module offers similar capabilities to Slmgr.vbs for managing activation information. The OSLicense module is available for Windows 11 users after the August 2026 Preview update and will be supported in the next major release of Windows Server. Organizations are advised to review their existing scripts and tools to adapt to this transition.

Your Windows 11 PC Can Now Reinstall Windows From the Cloud

Microsoft introduced a feature called Cloud Rebuild with the release of Build 26220.9343 to the Beta channel on September 8, 2026. This tool allows users to download a fresh installation of Windows 11 from the internet, restoring the operating system and its drivers without needing removable media. The recovery process is conducted through the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), and users can access it by booting into WinRE or through Settings. For Cloud Rebuild to work, a healthy WinRE, internet access, a compatible networking driver, and local administrator credentials are required. The feature also enables the storage of Wi-Fi profiles in WinRE, allowing wireless-only setups to utilize cloud recovery. Cloud Rebuild is compatible with enterprise management tools like Intune and Windows Autopilot, but it is currently only available to Beta channel Insider participants for non-production evaluation.

ReProgman – The Windows 3.1 interface on PC and Mac

Developer Mayuki Sawatari has created ReProgman, a modern homage to the Windows 3.1 Program Manager, which operates on both Windows 11 and macOS. The application mimics the early '90s interface, scanning the Start menu on Windows or the Applications folder on Mac to organize programs into groups without altering actual shortcuts. Users can drag and drop icons, utilize classic window arrangements, and experience a recreated exit dialog box. The project was initially developed in just an hour, with a detailed specification document available in its git repository. ReProgman is released under the MIT license and is available as a standalone binary, though Mac users need to adjust permissions to run it. Currently, it supports only Windows 11 on x64 and Arm architectures and macOS on Apple Silicon, excluding Windows 10 and Intel Macs.
