Microsoft has introduced the Windows 365 Link, a compact device priced at £349, designed to connect users to Windows Cloud PCs hosted on Azure. Weighing 418 grams, it features HDMI, USB-C, three USB-A ports, Ethernet, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. The device is only compatible with organizations using Windows 365 (Enterprise, Frontline, or Business), Intune, and Microsoft Entra ID, excluding government users. It promises high-performance video playback and conferencing, particularly with Teams, but functions primarily as a cloud dongle aimed at simplifying IT administration and enhancing security. The Link connects to Windows 365 in seconds and is available through select resellers like Ricoh UK and Insight Enterprises in the U.S.

Immersive productivity with Windows and Meta Quest

The full capabilities of Windows 11 are now accessible on mixed reality headsets, starting with the Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S, through a collaboration between Microsoft and Meta. Users can engage in a public preview that allows seamless access to local Windows PCs or Windows 365 Cloud PCs. Connecting a Quest headset to a local PC is straightforward; users can press “Windows + Y” to generate a QR code for scanning. The Windows App on Meta Quest devices provides secure access to Windows 365 Cloud PCs, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Microsoft Dev Box. The Meta Quest headset allows users to utilize multiple high-resolution virtual monitors, enhancing productivity while maintaining awareness of their physical environment through the Passthrough feature. This experience is part of an experimental feature rolling out with the v72 software update for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S, which will be deployed gradually.

2K mocap studio votes for unionisation

Staff at 2K Games' motion-capture studio in California voted to unionize, with 15 employees in favor and six opposed, during an election monitored by the National Labor Relations Board on November 22nd. The unionization effort was supported by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE). Matthew Peterson, a mocap animator, expressed hope that this milestone would inspire other workers in the industry to organize. IATSE International President Matthew Loeb emphasized the broader implications of this victory for labor relations in the video game industry. The unionization campaign began in October.
