This app will bring Galaxy SmartTag to all Android phones, assuming Samsung doesn’t shut it down

Samsung's Galaxy SmartTag is effective for item tracking, often outperforming Google’s Find My Device network, but is limited to Samsung Galaxy devices. A new app called “uTag” allows Galaxy SmartTags to be used with other Android smartphones by bypassing the device verification process. The app provides features such as item tracking on a map, location history, and ringing control, and can utilize Ultra Wideband technology for precise tracking. Users can enable integration with Samsung's network, receive alerts for unknown trackers, and access homescreen widgets. The app requires a Samsung account, which could pose concerns if Samsung intervenes. While Galaxy SmartTags are affordable, investing in them solely for use with “uTag” may be risky due to the app's uncertain longevity.

Samsung keeps adding new features to the Messages app it supposedly sunset

Samsung has updated its Messages app with new features, including the ability to edit messages sent to other Galaxy devices running One UI 7, allowing up to three edits within 15 minutes after sending. Each edited message is marked, and a history of edits can be accessed. Additionally, there is an auto-delete function for one-time password (OTP) messages, which deletes them after 24 hours and permanently after 30 days. These features are reportedly available on the Galaxy S25, but some users have faced limitations based on regional software versions. The editing feature is likely limited to RCS messages, as SMS does not support it. Despite previous statements about phasing out the Messages app, the updates suggest Samsung's continued commitment to it.

Samsung Dual Messenger v3.5 available for One UI 7 Beta devices

This version is currently available to users testing the One UI 7 Beta on the Galaxy S24 series in select regions. The update enhances compatibility with Android 15, allowing users to maintain two separate accounts for the same messaging application, each with its own contact list. Activation requires navigating through Settings to the Dual Messenger option and selecting a supported app. Additionally, Samsung may integrate Dual Messenger support into the One Hand Operation+ module of Good Lock for easier one-handed use.

Gemini may be able to work with Samsung’s Clock, Notes, Reminders, and Calendar apps in Android 16

Gemini is set to enhance its capabilities with new extensions for deep integration with Samsung's stock applications on Galaxy devices, allowing interaction with Samsung Clock, Notes, Reminders, and Calendar through Google's generative AI assistant. A Samsung Reminders extension is expected to be introduced, enabling users to create tasks directly within the Reminders app, contingent on upgrading to Android 16 or later. Upcoming features include the ability to create and modify alarms, manage timers and stopwatches in Samsung Clock; create, delete, and update note folders and notes in Samsung Notes; and create, delete, and update tasks in Samsung Reminders. OneUI 7 won’t support Samsung’s DeX app for Windows

Samsung announced that the upcoming One UI 7 will not support the DeX app on Windows. The DeX app, which allowed users to transfer files and mirror their Android phone's screen on Windows PCs, is being phased out in favor of Microsoft Phone Link, which offers similar functionalities and supports a broader range of Android devices. Users are encouraged to use the Link to Windows feature instead, which can be set up by downloading the Link to Windows app on their Android device and connecting it to the Phone Link app on their Windows 11 PC.

You can now see Galaxy phone in your Galaxy Book’s File Manager
