Microsoft's Windows 11 has become the most widely adopted desktop operating system, capturing 52% of the market share, while Windows 10 holds 44.59%. Windows 11 is operational on over 400 million devices, taking two years to reach this milestone compared to one year for Windows 10. The slower adoption of Windows 11 is attributed to its stringent hardware requirements. Microsoft is offering one additional year of security updates for Windows 10 users at no cost, provided they enable Windows Backup and synchronize their Documents folder with OneDrive; otherwise, a fee will be required for updates.
