Google is introducing a new feature called "School Time" for select Android devices, tablets, and Samsung Galaxy Watches, allowing parents to customize app access for their children during designated learning hours. This feature locks away certain apps until the specified time has passed, helping children focus on their studies. Additionally, Google is enhancing safety settings for users under 18, activating SafeSearch and disabling auto-play on YouTube. The company is also expanding access to its Gemini AI model for teens, which includes safeguards against inappropriate content. Parents can create a specific list of contacts for their children during School Time and will soon be able to link their accounts with their teens through the Family Link app to monitor watch history and manage app exposure. The rollout of School Time is expected over the next year.
