Silk touch is an enchantment in Minecraft that allows players to collect blocks that would otherwise be unobtainable. Players can acquire silk touch using an enchanting table, where they can enhance the quality of enchantments by surrounding the table with up to 15 bookshelves. They can place a tool and lapis lazuli in the table to initiate the enchanting process. Silk touch may not always appear as an option, and players can disenchant and retry if needed.
Alternatively, players can obtain silk touch through enchanted books found in structures, fishing, or trading with villagers. Applying a silk touch book to a tool requires XP levels. Establishing a trading hall with librarian villagers can yield multiple silk touch books, while fishing or looting may be less reliable.
Looting structures for tools with silk touch is another method, but it is the least reliable due to randomness. Silk touch allows players to collect specific blocks, such as grass blocks, ores, glass, ender chests, melons, and stone, without converting them into other items. Silk touch is classified as a low-level enchantment, requiring no more than 9 bookshelves for optimal chances, but it can be obtained with fewer. Currently, only silk touch 1 exists, and spawners cannot be collected with this enchantment.
