Google is exploring a new feature for Gmail on Android that allows users to "mark as read" directly from notifications. This feature is currently being rolled out to a select group of users and is not universally available. Traditionally, Gmail notifications offered options to "delete" or "reply" to emails. Users can also mark emails as read using swipe gestures within the app, which can be customized in the Settings menu. Default swipe actions include Archive, Delete, Mark as read/unread, Move to, Snooze, and None.

Google is enhancing the Gmail experience for Android users by integrating its Gemini AI technology into the app. The Gemini button will allow users to have their emails summarized or assist in crafting replies. Despite the potential convenience of AI summaries, human review is still recommended for instances where precision is crucial. Gemini AI also has the ability to adjust the tone of email drafts and provide guidance on using Gmail's functionalities. The official debut of Gemini AI within the Gmail app is eagerly anticipated.
