Google Calendar now shows three time zones at once

Google Calendar now supports the display of three time zones simultaneously on the web, allowing users to view them side by side in Day, Week, and Custom multi-day views. This feature began rolling out on September 25 and is available for Google Workspace, Workspace Individual, and personal Google accounts. The update includes enhancements to the Find a Time scheduling screen, where users can assign custom labels to each time zone. Rapid Release users will see the update within 15 days, while Scheduled Release domains will start on October 12. No admin switch is required to activate this feature.

Google removes the age barrier for Gemini study notebooks

Google is expanding access to its study notebooks within the Gemini app, designed to assist learners by creating personalized study plans based on their notes and course materials. Users with school or work-issued Google accounts can create subject-specific notebooks, take progress check quizzes, and access custom lessons. The dynamic dashboard categorizes learning objectives into "Strengths" and "Focus areas" to help identify knowledge gaps. The rollout of this feature may take up to 15 days for all users, with immediate access not available for users in the European Economic Area (EEA), although support for EEA users will be introduced soon. Users must have these features enabled by their administrators to utilize the app fully.

Samsung’s Gallery App is Getting New Google Photos Sync Feature

Samsung is replacing the OneDrive integration in its Gallery Android app with Google Photos, following Microsoft's announcement that OneDrive photo backup will cease after September 30, 2026. The new cloud sync feature with Google Photos is being rolled out to select Galaxy users, who must update their Gallery Cloud Sync, Samsung Cloud, and Samsung Gallery apps. The integration does not support supervised personal Google accounts or Google Workspace accounts. Users can back up their camera roll, specific albums, and local device folders to Google Photos, but edited photos will appear as separate items, and some Google Photos features will not be accessible for synced photos. Samsung's Gallery app will continue to operate alongside Google Photos, and the company is developing its own web browser for Android and Windows.

Notebooks in Gemini arrive for Google Workspace and Education accounts

Google has rolled out the "Notebooks in Gemini" feature to business and education accounts in Google Workspace, following its integration for regular users that began in April. The feature, previously known as NotebookLM, is now part of the main Gemini interface, allowing users to create interactive learning materials, reports, and slide decks. Workspace administrators can control access to the feature, which must be enabled at the organizational level. Users in the European Economic Area (EEA) do not have access to this feature due to regional restrictions on artificial intelligence applications.

Gemini’s Daily Brief drops its subscription fee

Google's Gemini's Daily Brief feature is now available to free users in the United States, removing the previous paid subscription requirement. The Daily Brief compiles information from Gmail, Google Calendar, and other connected applications, along with insights from past interactions, to create a personalized morning summary. Users need to have Personal Intelligence, Memory, and Google Workspace integration activated to fully utilize the feature. The rollout is gradual, and currently limited to U.S. users. Daily Brief allows users to manage tasks, initiate chats, and receive updates via Gemini Live. Future developments may include audio Daily Briefs and integration into the Android lock screen.

Your Android’s System Data Now Takes Up Cloud Storage Space – Here’s How To Disable It

Google has introduced granular backup settings for Android users, allowing them to manage data preservation more effectively. Users can disable cloud backups entirely and selectively choose which data sources or applications to back up. To adjust these settings, they can go to Settings > Google (or Google Services) > Other Device Data and toggle off the backup option. When cloud backups are disabled, app settings, call history, SMS messages, and media files will not be saved unless enabled individually. Backed-up data remains on Google's servers until manually deleted. If users exceed their cloud storage limit, they will face restrictions, such as being unable to send or receive emails in Gmail or back up photos to Google Photos. With cloud backups disabled, new devices will not automatically restore data from Google's cloud services. Users can expand their Google account storage by subscribing to Google One, with plans starting at .99 per month for 100GB. An active Google One subscription offers additional perks, including sharing benefits with family and access to enhanced Google Workspace features.

Android App Usage on Chromebooks Statistics 2026: App Adoption And Usage Data

In the first half of 2024, Google Classroom recorded approximately 10 million daily active users on Android devices. The Google Play Store had 2.06 million apps available as of February 2025, with 96.98% being free. There are 38 million Chromebooks deployed in K-12 schools, which represent the main Android app install base. Education accounts for 60.1% of all Chromebook sales. Most Chromebooks in schools are equipped with 4 GB of RAM, limiting multitasking capabilities, while the Chromebook Plus line features at least 8 GB of RAM for better performance. H1 2025 shipments of Chromebooks increased by 10.6% year-over-year, totaling 11 million units. The education sector is the primary driver of Android app activity on Chromebooks, with Google Workspace for Education reaching 170 million users by late 2025. Popular educational apps include Duolingo, Google Classroom, and Quizlet.

Your Android Auto just got a calling upgrade

Google Meet is now available on Android Auto, allowing users to join meetings directly from their car dashboard.
