The Googlebook integrates desktop and mobile experiences, primarily influenced by its Android roots. Its functionality is centered around the Play Store, which affects the app experience based on availability and performance. Google Calendar on the Googlebook resembles its web version, but users can enhance productivity with Android app widgets. There are challenges with installing certain web applications, indicating a need for improved compatibility. The Googlebook features a fully customizable desktop with Android widgets and excels in connectivity, allowing easy access to files on an Android phone. Hardware-wise, the Lenovo Googlebook has a sleek design and premium build quality. It also supports Android app streaming, enabling remote use of many apps, which may change user engagement with applications.

Setting up a Googlebook for Android users involves scanning a QR code to transfer accounts, data, and applications, requiring Android 17 for optimal integration. Google’s “Better Together” services allow access to files, synchronization of notifications, and app mirroring from an Android 17 phone. Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network for connectivity, and users may face limitations such as performance issues, incompatibility with system-level security apps, and the restriction of one app at a time. File access from the phone to the Googlebook is slow and one-way, with the Google Files app on the phone unable to access the Googlebook. The Files app on the Googlebook lacks features like tab support and network share compatibility, making the experience feel limited compared to traditional file management systems.

Two new platforms have launched on the PC scene: the Googlebook and the Nvidia RTX Spark platform. The Acer Googlebook 14 was reviewed by Ashley Biancuzzo, while the reviewer is currently focusing on Lenovo’s Googlebook 15, which has a subpar keyboard but features Google’s new Aluminium OS aimed at enhancing the Chromebook experience with AI-powered productivity. To fully utilize the Googlebook, an Android phone running Android 17 is required, although some Samsung phones have been allowed to connect. In contrast, Windows offers Phone Link, which connects an Android phone to a Windows PC and only requires Android 10, allowing for photo transfers, calls, messages, and running Android apps within PC windows. Phone Link is seen as a strong competitor to Googlebook’s offerings, except for app streaming.

In September, Google introduced the 'Googlebook,' a premium laptop alternative to its Chromebooks, developed in collaboration with OEMs like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. The ASUS Googlebook 14, priced at ,299, features a lightweight design, weighing approximately 0.97 kg (2.13 lbs), and a 14-inch OLED display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and brightness of up to 450 nits. It includes a comfortable keyboard with 1.5mm key travel and a 6-inch haptic touchpad. However, usability challenges exist, such as the Caps Lock key activating a context menu and the lack of a dedicated delete key. App compatibility issues have also been noted, with some applications performing poorly compared to their desktop versions. Despite these challenges, the Googlebook shows potential for improvement with future updates.

Google's Pixel 11 and the Googlebook feature the Rambler voice-to-text functionality, which uses AI to improve traditional voice-to-text capabilities by refining spoken words into coherent text with proper grammar and formatting. Rambler is currently exclusive to the Pixel 11 series, but a developer has ported it to other Android devices through an app called "PixelBoard," a modified version of Gboard. Users can sideload this app from GitHub, but they should proceed at their own risk. Testing on a Galaxy Z Fold 8 showed that the app functions effectively, similar to Rambler on the Pixel 11. It is unclear if Google will extend Rambler support to other devices, and alternatives like Microsoft’s SwiftKey are available on the Play Store.
