Rockstar Games has a history of delaying PC releases for major titles. GTA 5 was released on PC nearly two years after its initial launch on consoles, Red Dead Redemption 2 had a one-year delay, and the original Red Dead Redemption took 14 years to reach PC. The next-gen update for GTA 5 is scheduled for release on PC on March 4, 2023, and will be a complimentary update. It will include a "one-time Character Migration flow" for players to transfer their Story Mode and Online progress from previous versions. The update promises enhanced graphics and improved loading times.

Rockstar Games will release an enhanced version of GTA 5 for PC on March 4, 2025, free of charge. Minimum hardware requirements include 16GB of RAM, an Nvidia RTX 3060 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, and an SSD. Players can transfer their single-player and multiplayer progress to the new version.
