World, a biometric ID verification initiative co-founded by Sam Altman, has launched an updated app featuring an encrypted chat integration and enhanced cryptocurrency functionality. Founded in 2019 by Tools for Humanity, World aims to combat AI-generated digital impersonations and establish digital "proof of human" tools. The app's World Chat messenger offers end-to-end encryption and color-coded speech bubbles for verified contacts. Users can now send and receive cryptocurrency, receive paychecks, and deposit bank funds without prior verification. World uses an iris-scanning device called Orb for authentication, converting iris data into a unique digital code for a World ID. The company has scanned fewer than 20 million eyes, with aspirations to reach one billion. To simplify the verification process, Tools for Humanity introduced Orb Minis, hand-held devices for self-scanning eyes at home.

The Light Ground Transport (LGT) jeep in Battlefield 6 is often criticized as a "coffin on wheels" due to its lack of armor, making passengers vulnerable. Despite its agility and mounted machine gun, players frequently avoid using it. A player named Renegade_Soviet achieved the "Gold Standard" skin for the LGT by reaching rank 50 with the vehicle, which is considered a rare accomplishment. He employed a strategy of positioning the jeep in narrow alleyways to ambush enemies, earning 2,500 to 3,000 XP per game over a month. Renegade found the journey to rank 50 challenging and opted to play in normal Conquest and Escalation modes for better rewards. He sought the achievement for personal pride, noting that the mastery badge is distinctive compared to more common badges. Renegade acknowledged the LGT's shortcomings and suggested that even minor improvements, like a shield for the machine gun, could enhance its effectiveness. He used the jeep mainly in a stationary position to avoid becoming an easy target. Discussions among players include hopes for improvements to the LGT or the introduction of new vehicles.

A conversation at The Verge focused on finding a compact, portable gaming PC that could transition between the living room and home office, similar to the Steam Deck. Two days later, they discovered the Steam Machine, a 6-inch cube hybrid gaming PC and console with an AMD GPU six times more powerful than the Steam Deck. It operates on SteamOS, features a customizable LED bar for monitoring downloads, supports Valve's Steam Controller, and accommodates up to four controllers. As a Linux-based PC, it allows for dual-booting with Windows to access games not available on Linux. The Steam Machine integrates with an existing library of Steam games and includes a microSD card slot for easy game transfers. Valve plans to launch the Steam Machine next year, with pricing details yet to be announced.

Microsoft has officially ceased updates for Windows 10 and urged consumers to upgrade their hardware and operating systems. The company is committed to sustainability and security, aiming for carbon negativity, water positivity, and zero waste by 2030. Microsoft reported that one in five businesses in Europe experienced security breaches in 2024, highlighting the risks associated with outdated software. They advocate for upgrading to Windows 11, which they claim has a 62% drop in security incidents compared to Windows 10. A protest by the Right to Repair Europe coalition occurred outside Microsoft’s headquarters, arguing that the decision to stop updates makes functional computers obsolete and raises concerns about processor incompatibility for many existing PCs.

Gunman Chronicles, released in 2000 and built on the Half-Life engine, was published by Sierra Studios but has never been available on any official PC storefronts, including Steam. The project lead, Herbert Flower, revealed that the development team, composed of modders from various countries, faced financial constraints that led them to seek assistance from Valve. Valve invited the team to its Seattle headquarters, where they worked for about two and a half months and received a funding boost. Despite the collaboration, Flower's relationship with Gabe Newell was strained, and the team ultimately received only 11% of the game's earnings after Sierra's cut. The game's launch was described as "anticlimactic," and Flower speculated that disputes over rights following Sierra's merger with Vivendi might explain the game's absence from Steam. Despite solid sales, the game received mixed reviews, with some critics noting its similarities to Half-Life.
