Your Galaxy’s SmartThings app looks set for its biggest redesign in years

Samsung's SmartThings app is undergoing a redesign to align with the One UI design language, featuring a floating navigation bar for easy access to tabs like Home, Devices, Life, Routines, and Menu. The Home tab will have animated wallpapers that change with the time of day and allow for personalized backgrounds for different locations. A new SmartThings Now card will suggest underutilized features, which can be disabled by users. The redesign includes three types of home-screen widgets: Device Control, Screen Device Control, and Routines. The Devices tab will have a refreshed background, and the Life section will continue to offer services like Energy and Music Sync, with customizable card arrangements. The Routines tab will separate existing automations from a Discover section showcasing popular community routines. A release date for the update is not confirmed but may align with the rollout of One UI 9.

How to Turn Off McAfee

McAfee provides various cybersecurity features, including real-time antivirus protection, firewalls, VPNs, and browser extensions. Users can adjust settings based on their device. To pause real-time scanning on Windows, open the McAfee app, click on My Protection Widgets, select Real-Time Scanning, and turn it off. For Mac, click the McAfee icon in the menu bar, access the product console, and turn off Real-Time Scanning. To shut down the Advanced Firewall, open the McAfee app, select Advanced Firewall, and turn it off. Scheduled scans can be stopped by navigating to Scheduled Scans in the McAfee app and using the Turn off control. To turn off Secure VPN, open the app, find the Secure VPN tile, and toggle it off. For disabling McAfee WebAdvisor in browsers, users should manage extensions in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. To stop notifications and alerts, users can adjust settings in Windows and various browsers. Uninstalling McAfee involves navigating through the device's settings, and to stop renewal billing, users must log in to their McAfee account and disable auto-renewal. Users should be aware of older and managed-device guides and how to stop notifications on mobile devices. Disabling features does not uninstall McAfee, and turning off auto-renewal does not remove the application from the device.

A major Windows 11 UI redesign is coming, Microsoft is dumping legacy code for WinUI

Microsoft is transitioning more Windows UI elements to WinUI3, moving away from legacy UI inconsistencies that have led to increased RAM usage. WinUI serves as the native UI framework designed to replace older technologies like Win32 and UWP. An early preview of the redesigned Properties dialog, rebuilt in WinUI, showcased new native elements. Microsoft plans to bring more Windows UI to WinUI3, despite previous issues with hastily integrating dark mode into legacy code. The decision to rebuild the Properties dialog indicates a commitment to investing resources in this initiative. Updates across various dialogs and system components are ongoing, with the file copy dialog already rewritten in WinUI. The Run dialog has also transitioned to WinUI, loading faster than its predecessor. However, the Start menu rewrite is being cautiously managed due to current memory usage issues with WinUI. Microsoft is actively working to enhance WinUI’s memory usage and integrate it with the Windows system compositor for improved performance.

Windows 11’s File Explorer is now faster at deleting large files, in a rare speed win from Microsoft

Microsoft released Windows 11 Insider Experimental Preview Build 26300.8935 on July 20, which improves File Explorer's ability to delete large, fragmented files more quickly in certain scenarios. The update promises at least a 30% speed increase for bulk deletions and enhances the responsiveness of the Home tab in File Explorer. The Recommended section now supports touch scrolling. Future updates will include a modernization of the Properties dialog and improvements to search functionality. These enhancements aim to address the sluggishness of File Explorer, which has been attributed to fragmentation issues in NTFS and the hybrid architecture of the application.

How to Stop McAfee from Running on Windows

McAfee offers features such as file scanning, network traffic filtering, VPN services, and browser warnings to protect users. Users can pause Real-Time Scanning by opening the McAfee app, selecting Real-Time Scanning under My Protection Widgets, and turning it off. To disable the Advanced Firewall, users must access the Advanced Firewall section in the app and turn it off. Scheduled scans can be stopped by navigating to Scheduled Scans in the app and clicking Turn off. To prevent Secure VPN from reconnecting, users can toggle it off in the Home tab and set Auto Connect to Never connect automatically. Browser protection features can be managed by toggling off McAfee WebAdvisor in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Users can block fake McAfee popups by adjusting notification settings in their browsers. To prevent McAfee startup helpers from opening, users can manage startup settings in Windows. To completely remove McAfee, users should uninstall it through Settings or Control Panel and follow the prompts. If remnants remain, the MCPR tool can be used for complete removal. Microsoft Defender will reactivate automatically after McAfee is uninstalled.

After Samsung Health, the Wearable app could be getting its biggest redesign yet

Samsung is redesigning its Galaxy Wearable app to improve user experience with a new interface and enhanced functionality. The app will transition from a black interface to soft blue and purple gradients, organized into three main sections: Watch Faces, Home, and Settings. The Home tab will display the connected Galaxy Watch's image, battery level, and shortcuts for frequently adjusted settings. The watch face browser will show the entire watch with the selected face for better assessment. The Settings menu will have a refined appearance with simpler icons and reorganized options for quicker access. New features include AI-generated Tiles for personalized information aggregation and a raise-to-talk function for the Gemini voice assistant. Health monitoring upgrades will introduce a Daily Cardio Load feature for training recommendations and a Vitals feature to track overnight health metrics. Additionally, a Sound Exposure feature will monitor daily noise levels, and outdoor-focused tools are being developed for Samsung's rugged Ultra watches.

Microsoft is rolling out an enhanced File Explorer for Windows 11 as part of the June 2026 optional update (KB5095093 / Build 26200.8737), which will also be included in the cumulative update scheduled for July 2026. This update improves File Explorer performance, particularly by streamlining the "Home" tab and enhancing the speed of launching File Explorer. Users will experience a more responsive interface, with improvements in the address bar and fixes for issues related to unresponsiveness when mounting disk images. Enhancements also include refinements in file and folder renaming, allowing for better text selection and case-only name changes. Users can navigate between folders using double backslashes and quotation marks in the address bar. Microsoft is also testing a faster, configurable right-click menu to improve usability. The preloading feature for File Explorer is still in development, with no guarantee it will match the speed of Windows 10.
