I tested Norton Antivirus on my PC – and it found a hidden Trojan in 15 minutes

Norton Antivirus is a well-regarded malware protection tool, consistently ranking among the top in the industry with a robust suite of security features. It has a user-friendly interface similar to Malwarebytes, but intrusive upselling tactics detract from usability. Norton offers comprehensive scanning tools, including Quick Scan, Full Scan, Smart Scan, Targeted Scan, and Startup Scan, which successfully detected a Trojan missed by other antivirus software. Its Scam Protection tools provide alerts for online scams and phishing attempts, and it includes unique features like Deepfake Protection and an AI assistant named Genie. According to MRG Effitas, Norton blocked 98% of malware samples with a 0.33% miss rate, achieving a Level 2 certification. Pricing includes several plans, with Norton 360 Deluxe offering the best value at an introductory price of .99 for the first year, rising to .99 annually. Despite its strengths, the intrusive upselling makes it less recommendable compared to Malwarebytes, although it has unique capabilities in threat detection and a comprehensive suite of security tools.

After Samsung Health, the Wearable app could be getting its biggest redesign yet

Samsung is redesigning its Galaxy Wearable app to improve user experience with a new interface and enhanced functionality. The app will transition from a black interface to soft blue and purple gradients, organized into three main sections: Watch Faces, Home, and Settings. The Home tab will display the connected Galaxy Watch's image, battery level, and shortcuts for frequently adjusted settings. The watch face browser will show the entire watch with the selected face for better assessment. The Settings menu will have a refined appearance with simpler icons and reorganized options for quicker access. New features include AI-generated Tiles for personalized information aggregation and a raise-to-talk function for the Gemini voice assistant. Health monitoring upgrades will introduce a Daily Cardio Load feature for training recommendations and a Vitals feature to track overnight health metrics. Additionally, a Sound Exposure feature will monitor daily noise levels, and outdoor-focused tools are being developed for Samsung's rugged Ultra watches.

Samsung’s Wearables app leaks with an all-new look to get ready for new watches

Samsung is redesigning its Wearables app to align with the One UI aesthetic, featuring a home screen that prominently displays the user's connected Galaxy Watch and simplifies tab options. The update is expected to introduce new Health features, including the Vitals feature that consolidates heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygen levels. These enhancements are anticipated to roll out to Galaxy devices in June. Additionally, the app may include personalized "custom tiles" generated by Galaxy AI and real-time elevation tracking for outdoor activities.

Microsoft begins rolling out a faster File Explorer on Windows 11, and no, it’s not preloading

Microsoft is rolling out an enhanced File Explorer for Windows 11 as part of the June 2026 optional update (KB5095093 / Build 26200.8737), which will also be included in the cumulative update scheduled for July 2026. This update improves File Explorer performance, particularly by streamlining the "Home" tab and enhancing the speed of launching File Explorer. Users will experience a more responsive interface, with improvements in the address bar and fixes for issues related to unresponsiveness when mounting disk images. Enhancements also include refinements in file and folder renaming, allowing for better text selection and case-only name changes. Users can navigate between folders using double backslashes and quotation marks in the address bar. Microsoft is also testing a faster, configurable right-click menu to improve usability. The preloading feature for File Explorer is still in development, with no guarantee it will match the speed of Windows 10.

Microsoft is making Windows 11’s Start menu resizable after years of complaints, adds Small and Large options

Microsoft is updating the Start menu in Windows 11 based on user feedback about its size and functionality. The new Start menu will feature a categories layout and enhanced customization options. Users will soon be able to choose between two layouts: small and large. Additionally, users can hide specific sections within the menu, such as the Pinned section or the Recommended feed, to create a more streamlined experience. The Recommended feed can be disabled without affecting the Recent section in the taskbar or File Explorer. Users will also have the option to hide their name and profile picture in the Start menu. These updates will be rolled out in the coming weeks, with plans for further enhancements, including a movable and smaller taskbar and up to 18 major changes to Windows 11.

Your Samsung phone just got a big upgrade for editing photos, videos, and documents

Samsung has launched an update to its Galaxy Enhance-X app, now at version 16.3.00.31, featuring a redesigned interface with a three-tab layout: Plugins, Home, and History. The update includes three downloadable plugins: CinematicGlow, FilmStyle, and SkyGuide. New editing tools have been added for photos, videos, and documents, including features for blur fixing, reflection removal, HDR adjustments, and face editing. The "Doc tools" section allows for automatic cleaning and cropping of scanned documents, as well as conversion to JPEGs or PDFs. Batch editing is now possible, and all edited content is saved in standard formats, with the History tab for organization.

Older Pixel Devices Can Now Record Calls Directly in the Phone App

Google has expanded the call recording feature in its Phone app to include Pixel 6 and newer models. This feature allows users to record phone conversations, although it does not include transcription or automatic note-taking capabilities. Call recording is available in regions where it is legal, and users in the United States and Canada currently have access. To use the feature, users must have a Pixel 6 or newer device with Android 14 or higher, or a non-Pixel device with Android 9 or higher, and must update their Phone app. Users can activate call recording in the Phone app's settings and have options for automatic recording and deletion of recordings after a specified period. The call recorder will announce the recording to all parties involved in the call.
