Tempest Rising has just launched an expansion that lets you play as the bad guys

Tempest Rising, developed by Slipgate Ironworks, is a real-time strategy (RTS) game that successfully revives the essence of 90's-style RTS games. Set in an alternate history post-World War III in 1997, players compete for control over a resource called Tempest. The game has received positive reviews, including an 85 score from PC Gamer. The recently released Veti's Wrath expansion introduces a new faction, the Veti, featuring an 11-mission campaign where players can transform fallen enemies into thralls for strategic advantages. The Veti cultivate Tempest through Refinement Altars and possess unique units like flying Caretakers and the Gorgon mech. Tempest Rising will be re-released as a Gold Edition on September 29, including both the base game and the expansion, with the Veti faction available as a free multiplayer option. The base game is currently available on Steam.

Phoenix Point’s Terror from the Void mod is so good Snapshot Games just released a massive patch to make the original game more like the fanmade overhaul

Phoenix Point, originally designed as a successor to the X-COM series, faced challenges at launch, including bugs and repetitive gameplay. The introduction of the "Terror from the Void" mega-mod significantly improved the game, leading to the Firebird update, which coincided with the game's fifth anniversary. This update includes a 20% reduction in research times, halved construction times for project buildings, simplified ammunition production, and revamped base defense missions. It also alters the Pandorans' evolution system to create a more balanced gameplay experience. Additional changes include more predictable soldier rescue missions, increased ambush missions, and the introduction of loot crates. The update is compatible with the Terror from the Void mod, and players are encouraged to update their mods. To celebrate the update, Phoenix Point is being offered at a 60% discount, reducing the price from £19.50 to £7.79, with the offer ending on December 18.

Ashes of the Singularity 2 announced for PC

Oxide Games and Stardock announced Ashes of the Singularity 2, set for a PC release in 2026. The sequel will introduce human factions into the storyline, featuring the United Earth Forces battling against AI and Post-Humans. It will include a single-player campaign, cooperative and multiplayer modes, and new gameplay mechanics. Stardock CEO Brad Wardell highlighted the community's request for a human faction, which was not feasible in the first game due to technical limitations.
