Developers on Itch.io are now required to disclose the use of generative AI in their gaming projects. They must specify if their game incorporates generative AI and detail its applications, including graphics, sound, text, dialogue, and code. Games utilizing generative AI will be tagged accordingly, with distinct tags for specific functions. Generative AI is defined as systems that produce new content by learning from extensive datasets, such as ChatGPT for text and DALL-E for images. Developers are encouraged to use the AI Disclosure section on their project’s edit page for accurate tagging. However, projects using self-contained algorithms that do not rely on large datasets are exempt from these requirements, as are traditional game AI functionalities like NPC pathfinding and procedural level generation.
