LG has decided to stop the McAfee pop-up notifications in its Monitor App Installer following intervention from Pavan Davuluri, head of Windows at Microsoft. Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, had previously highlighted the annoyance caused by these advertisements. The pop-ups appeared when certain LG devices, like the LG UltraGear, were connected to a Windows device for the first time. Windows allows hardware manufacturers to silently add software during external device installations, which can lead to advertising and mixed user experiences. LG is not exploiting vulnerabilities for software installation, and the automatic process is well-documented. This incident raises questions about review procedures and the implications of advertising within the Windows ecosystem.

However, Facebook Messenger appears to be functioning normally, with no significant increase in complaints noted in the past 24 hours and the last confirmed incident occurring about five weeks ago. The situation is fluid, and outage data may change rapidly. Users should consult live outage-tracking sites or try sending messages to determine Messenger's current status. Windows 11 is currently operating on 78.8% of Windows devices, while Windows 10 holds a 16.9% share. Microsoft ceased support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, making it vulnerable to security threats. Eligible Windows 10 devices can receive Extended Security Updates (ESU) until October 12, 2027, through a paid program, with free ESU available for users in the European Economic Area until October 14, 2026. Approximately 21.4% of devices in small and medium-sized businesses and 16.6% in large organizations still run Windows 10, often due to budget constraints. Devices in industries like healthcare and manufacturing are particularly slow to adopt Windows 11. Windows 10 devices face nearly three times the number of active vulnerabilities compared to Windows 11, with 66.6% rated as high or critical. About 2.8% of Windows 10 systems do not meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11. A total of 18.7% of Windows devices are running unsupported operating systems, with 22.2% on versions that will reach end of support within six months, totaling 40.9% of systems that are unsupported or soon to be. The consumer ESU program will expire on October 12, 2027, after which many devices will transition to unsupported status.

The desktop version of Facebook experienced a global outage on Sunday morning, causing users to receive messages indicating their accounts were “currently unavailable due to a site issue.” The platform returned to normal operations just before noon after approximately three hours of downtime. During this period, the DownDetector website noted a spike in searches for “Facebook down,” peaking around 9 am. While the desktop version faced issues, the mobile app continued to function largely without disruption, although some users had difficulties uploading content or sending messages. Instagram users also reported problems, receiving error messages related to viewing and sharing posts. Meta had not issued an official statement regarding the outage. Approximately 1.5% to 2% of Facebook's estimated 3 billion monthly active users access the platform exclusively via desktop, while over 81% use mobile devices.
