90% of APAC Gen Z Experienced Cyber Incidents: Kaspersky Study

Recent research from Kaspersky highlights that 57% of Generation Z spends more time online than offline, with 75% of APAC Gen Zs using smartphones for daily internet access. Approximately two-thirds of Gen Zs in APAC feel comfortable navigating the digital environment, with confidence levels peaking at 77% in Indonesia and 71% in Vietnam. However, only 26% consider their knowledge of digital risks advanced, with India leading at 35%. Only 22% of Gen Zs in APAC use antivirus software, and 35% change their passwords regularly. Alarmingly, 90% have experienced at least one cyber incident in the past year. Smartphones are seen as critical for storing personal documents and passwords, yet only a third of Gen Zs back up important information regularly. Kaspersky emphasizes the need for cybersecurity measures to be integrated into daily routines and has introduced an interactive game to raise awareness among Gen Z users. The study surveyed 7,200 respondents across 18 countries in March 2026.

Galaxy Store Will Start Hiding Unverified Android Apps in September

Samsung has alerted developers using the Galaxy Store about upcoming changes due to Google's new Android Developer Verification (ADV) rules, which will take effect on September 30, 2026. Developers in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand must complete the verification process to avoid having their unverified apps removed from the Galaxy Store. The ADV process requires developers to authenticate their identities and register package names and signing certificates. Apps that are not verified will be hidden from search results and listings, affecting their visibility. Users may face difficulties reinstalling or updating existing apps until developers complete the verification, although previously installed apps will continue to function. Samsung is indicating the status of app binaries in the Seller Portal and will restrict new registrations and updates lacking ADV approval starting in September. Sideloading will still be possible for certain apps and through an advanced installation flow, while ADB installations will remain unchanged. The initial rollout is limited to specific countries, with a global expansion expected in 2027. Developers are encouraged to act quickly to maintain app visibility.

Google’s Android Sideloading Rules Take Shape: Installation Won’t Be Blocked, but Apps from Unverified Developers Will Be Intercepted

Google has introduced a new app installation framework called "Advanced Flow," which allows sideloading of apps on Android devices but requires developers to complete real-name verification. Applications signed by unverified developers will be flagged during installation. Users can still sideload apps, but must enable "Developer Options" and acknowledge risks associated with unverified software. A 24-hour waiting period is imposed after enabling Developer Options, with options for permanent or temporary toggling. Google plans to enforce these developer verification requirements starting September 30 in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand, with a global rollout expected by 2027. ADB installations are not subject to these restrictions.
