Tragic android puzzle game Save My Scrap launches this month

Save My Scrap is a visual novel / puzzle game set to be released on Windows PC via Steam on April 22nd, followed by releases for the Switch and PS5 on April 30th, and Xbox Series X|S on May 28th. Players will take on the role of a mechanic for androids who receives a request from a doctor named Miomaru and his aging android, Harima. The game involves engaging in mini-games to fix Harima's parts, interacting with the characters to uncover their story, and gaining insights into the game's world and culture through radio channels. RedSun: Windows 0day when Defender becomes the attacker

A vulnerability has been discovered in Windows Defender that allows standard users to exploit a logic error in the file remediation process, enabling code execution with elevated privileges without administrative access. This flaw, identified by security researcher Chaotic Eclipse, occurs because Windows Defender does not verify if the restoration location of flagged files has been altered through a junction point. The exploit, named RedSun, takes advantage of a missing validation in the MpSvc.dll file, allowing attackers to redirect file restoration to the C:WindowsSystem32 directory. RedSun operates by chaining together four legitimate Windows features: Opportunistic Locks (OPLOCKs), Cloud Files API, Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS), and Junction Points. The execution of the exploit involves monitoring shadow copies, triggering Defender's detection, synchronizing OPLOCKs, and ultimately writing malicious binaries to the System32 directory. The root cause is the lack of reparse point validation in the restoration process, and currently, no patch or CVE has been assigned for this vulnerability. It affects Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server 2019 and later, and organizations are advised to implement behavioral detection strategies until a fix is available.

New RecruitRat, SaferRat, Astrinox, Massiv Android Malware Found Targeting 800 Apps

Cybersecurity researchers from Zimperium zLabs have identified four families of Android malware—RecruitRat, SaferRat, Astrinox, and Massiv—targeting banking and cryptocurrency applications. These malware families can extract sensitive information from over 800 applications. They primarily use phishing and smishing to lure users into downloading malicious software. Phishing involves creating fake websites resembling legitimate login pages, while smishing uses urgent text messages with links to download harmful payloads. RecruitRat targets job seekers with fake employment websites, and SaferRat promises free access to premium video services. Astrinox mimics a business tool and has been linked to a fraudulent Apple App Store page, while Massiv's distribution methods remain unclear. Once installed, these malware applications initiate Overlay attacks, displaying counterfeit screens to capture user credentials. They also use a "blindfold" technique to obscure their activities by overlaying static images on the user's screen. The malware can intercept security codes, capture one-time passwords, and employ keylogging techniques. RecruitRat has a library of over 700 counterfeit login pages that activate with targeted apps. Researchers recommend avoiding links in urgent messages and downloading apps only from official sources.
