Microsoft is focusing on enhancing the efficiency of Windows 11 for systems with 8 GB of RAM, identifying memory optimization as a key priority. The company is revising multiple technical areas, including a more efficient memory allocator and adaptations to WinUI 3 to reduce RAM usage. Improvements are also planned for Chromium and WebView2 to decrease resource consumption. Microsoft has not committed to specific metrics for memory reduction or paging activity but aims to improve performance for budget-friendly devices. The official minimum requirement for Windows 11 is 4 GB, but higher memory allocations may be necessary for certain applications. Microsoft plans to roll out improvements tested since March more broadly in the autumn, although it remains unclear if these changes will apply to all supported versions of Windows 11. Users with 8 GB of RAM will not need to take immediate action, as the new memory management features will be revealed in future updates.

A Chromebook can be used for productivity, gaming, and entertainment, and users can sideload Android apps when they are not available on the Google Play Store. Sideloading involves installing Android Package Kits (APKs) directly onto the device, but caution is advised as these apps have not been verified by Google. Users should research APKs to ensure they are legitimate and free from malware. To sideload an app, users can enable Linux on their Chromebook and use Android Debug Bridge (ADB). This requires enabling ADB debugging in the Linux development environment and using the Terminal to install the APK. Alternatively, users can run APKs using an emulator in Android Studio, which involves setting up Android Studio and creating an Android Virtual Device to install the APK.

PC gaming has transformed with modern titles requiring robust hardware, yet many users overlook game compatibility and driver updates, which are crucial for performance. A computer with outdated drivers can experience crashes and poor frame rates, while an optimized system with current drivers offers a better gaming experience. Game compatibility is determined by specific hardware requirements, including the operating system, CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, and DirectX version. Tools like "Can I Run It" help users verify compatibility before installation. Common performance issues stem from outdated drivers, missing updates, and software conflicts. Regular driver updates are essential for optimal hardware performance, as they provide enhancements, bug fixes, and compatibility support. Automated driver management software simplifies the update process, reducing errors and improving maintenance. Proper preparation before installing new games includes verifying system requirements, updating drivers, and ensuring sufficient storage. A well-maintained PC can enhance gaming performance without immediate hardware upgrades. Users should choose maintenance tools that ensure accurate hardware detection and safe driver installation.

Jack Dorsey has introduced a new feature for his offline messaging app, BitChat, allowing Android users to share and install the app directly from one device to another via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, without needing an internet connection or access to the Google Play Store or GitHub. This feature is designed to enable users to install BitChat by sharing the APK file, making the app accessible even if it faces restrictions on online platforms. The update follows concerns from the Indian government about the app being exploited by criminal organizations. The BitChat team has stated that the app can now be distributed among users, transforming every device with BitChat installed into a potential distribution hub.

Bitsight's investigation revealed that inexpensive Android TV boxes are being shipped with applications that can change their hardware identity, allowing them to impersonate popular smartphone brands like Samsung and Huawei. This operation, named Fuyao, is linked to Zhejiang Fengwo IoT Technology Co., Ltd., a Chinese company established in 2019. The H96MAXV11 model was frequently reported among the affected devices. In one day, the operation received 65,957 reports from about 38,000 unique MAC addresses, with many devices misidentified as phones due to spoofed identifiers. Fengwo has also promoted over 120,000 "AI digital humans," though details on this marketing term are vague. The command-and-control server for Fuyao sends phone profiles to devices, masking their actual hardware specifications. The operation uses machine vision technology and a YOLOv8s object-detection model to identify advertisements. Bitsight documented 40 fraud tasks, 21 unique campaigns, and 166 modules across four devices. The operation's payout structure involves 144 operator-owned domains, with an estimated gross return of .25 per device daily, potentially leading to annual revenues in the millions. Attribution to Fengwo is supported by shared TLS certificate data and public patent records, although the patents do not directly address advertising. There is uncertainty about how the fraudulent apps were installed and at what point in the supply chain they were introduced. Device owners are advised to verify Play Protect certification and disconnect suspicious devices.
