Windows 11 24H2 gets a more streamlined taskbar and some much-needed bug fixes in Microsoft’s latest update

Windows 11 24H2 has an optional update, patch KB5046740, currently in testing. The update features enhancements to the taskbar and Start menu, including a more compact system tray that displays only the day and month, and a bug fix for the taskbar's auto-hide function. Users can now access a jump list for pinned applications in the Start menu. In File Explorer, a new Phone link option allows users to share files directly to smartphones, and a bug fix has improved icon spacing in the left panel. The update also includes various bug fixes related to Windows Update failures and clipboard history. Users can disable the new system tray features if they prefer the traditional display. This preview update may have glitches, and it will transition into the official December patch on December 10, with a minor update expected in January.

Android 15 Can Now Screen Record a Single App

Google has introduced a new feature in Android 15 that allows users to record the screen of a single app, improving upon the previous functionality that captured the entire display. This feature helps avoid interruptions from notifications and accidental app switches. In the Android 15 Quarterly Platform Release (QPR1), currently in beta, a timer will be displayed in the notification bar to indicate recording duration, and stopping a recording can now be done by tapping the timer instead of pulling down the notification shade. Additionally, a new security measure prevents screen recordings from third-party apps when the device is locked, enhancing user privacy. The updates are expected to roll out before the end of the year, with the first quarterly platform release anticipated around December. Android 15 QPR1 will also include an option to limit daily charging to 80% for better battery health.
