Tanzania welcomes MAX, the new Russian messaging app

A new Russian-developed messaging application called MAX has been launched in Tanzania, designed to provide effective communication even in areas with limited internet connectivity. The application, which aims to enhance communication between Tanzania and Russian-speaking communities, allows users to send messages, make voice and video calls, share files, and participate in online meetings. MAX currently has over 110 million registered users globally, with about seven million outside Russia and over 80 million active daily users. It offers features such as group calls, information channels, and virtual meeting tools, making it suitable for various sectors including education and business. The application operates efficiently in areas with weak internet connections using technology called NoLACE, which improves voice clarity and restores communication during network interruptions. It also includes an AI assistant named GigaChat for translation and content creation. MAX is optimized for low-cost smartphones and has been introduced in several African countries, with plans for expansion to others including Egypt and South Africa.

Windows 11’s New Xbox Mode is Now Available for More Insiders

Microsoft is expanding the Xbox Mode, previously known as the Xbox Full Screen Experience, to more Insiders, including those on the Canary and Release Preview Channels. The new Xbox Mode can be activated through the Xbox app, Game Bar settings, or by pressing Win + F11, providing a full-screen interface for PC games. The Canary build 29570.1000 also introduces a new Touchpad setting for adjusting the right-click zone size and expands lock screen widget personalization options. For Canary testers on the 28000 series builds, the build 28020.1863 addresses a sign-in issue without introducing new features. The Dev and Beta Channels are receiving updates focused on reliability, including improvements to File Explorer and Windows Hello. The Release Preview Channel is previewing an upcoming optional April update that includes the new Xbox Mode, File Explorer enhancements, haptic feedback for certain pens, a rebranded Drop Tray, taskbar monitoring for AI agents, and revamped voice typing features. Additional reliability enhancements are included for various Windows components.

Microsoft shuts down Android Outlook app

Microsoft will retire Outlook Lite for Android on May 25, 2026, after which users will no longer be able to access emails through the app. New downloads of Outlook Lite ceased in October 2025. Users will be guided to transition to the full Outlook app, and their accounts and data will remain intact. Outlook Lite was designed for low-end devices and had over 10 million downloads in its first year but struggled in the market. The trend of phasing out Lite applications is seen as a response to improved smartphone capabilities and internet connectivity. Users have just over a month to transition before the official retirement of Outlook Lite.

Microsoft Is Killing Outlook Lite

Microsoft is retiring the Outlook Lite app for Android, with the official end-of-life date set for May 25, 2026.
