The company reported a record billion quarter for fiscal year 2026, with an 18% year-over-year increase, and Azure's annual revenue surpassed billion for the first time. Microsoft 365 Copilot's paid seat count exceeded 30 million. Xbox experienced a significant outage due to a failure in a shared licensing service, but services have since been restored. The Windows Insider Program released two Future Platforms builds that include features like Voice Isolation and a new scheduling system for updates. Voice Isolation support for Voice Access is introduced, along with expanded Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security for external fingerprint readers. Immediate features include enhancements to Secure Boot, app stability improvements, and fixes for MDM compliance issues. Additional features rolling out post-update involve better file size displays in File Explorer, enhanced app search, Voice Isolation for voice access, taskbar notification badge updates, new touchpad gesture controls, and reliability improvements for the Start menu and Windows sign-in screens. Microsoft reports no known issues with this update.

Windows 11’s August Patch Tuesday update brings several important changes, and I break down the biggest ones

Microsoft will release the Windows 11 August 2026 Security Update on August 11, 2026, featuring new functionalities and enhancements. Key additions include Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security, the ability to uninstall AI models from Copilot+ PCs, new touchpad gestures, voice isolation for Voice Access, Fluid Dictation for Voice Typing, and a redesigned Start menu with parental controls notice. File Explorer improvements include displaying file sizes in appropriate units, middle-clicking to open folders in new tabs, and fixes for bugs. Users can manage AI models through Settings, and the Lock screen will default to the Weather widget. Touchpad settings will allow customization of scroll and zoom speeds. Fluid Dictation will be deactivated by default, with tooltips for guidance, while Voice Access will feature enhanced speech recognition settings. The Account Control interface will be redesigned for clarity, and power settings will apply across all plans. Windows Update will provide better progress estimates and improved post-update cleanup. Additionally, the Narrator feature has improved support for HID-compliant braille displays, enabling plug-and-play connectivity via USB or Bluetooth, including during the initial Windows setup for users who are deaf-blind. Compatible HID displays include the Orbit Reader 20, Orbit Slate 340, Freedom Scientific Focus 40, and APH Mantis Q40. Customization options for braille input and output are available in the Accessibility settings under Narrator.

Speaking of Matt Damon, there’s a new survival game out this week on Steam where you’re stranded on Mars and have to grow potatoes to survive

Christopher Nolan's film The Odyssey is boosting Matt Damon's career. The game Sol One, developed by yeetgench, is inspired by themes of survival similar to those in Damon's role in The Martian. In Sol One, players navigate a Martian landscape, scavenging resources and cultivating food, particularly potatoes, to survive. Unlike the film, the game's protagonist must rely on their ingenuity to escape without waiting for rescue. Players will mine materials like iron, copper, and uranium to build a rocket to return to Earth. The game includes automation features, allowing players to use rovers for resource gathering. Sol One aims for a grounded, science-driven survival experience, featuring realistic weather patterns and dynamic challenges. Early access for the game launches on Steam on July 30.

Xbox Announces Fable, Gears of War: E-Day, Metro 2039, Minecraft Dungeons 2 and More for Gamescom

Xbox will return to Gamescom from August 26th to 30th, featuring 25 playable titles including Stranger Than Heaven, Alien: Isolation 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Minecraft Dungeons 2, and Metro 2039. Players can engage with the multiplayer mode of Modern Warfare 4, and Playground Games will present a live demonstration of Fable's combat mechanics. Attendees will experience the campaign of Gears of War: E-Day before its launch. Other titles include Alien Deathstorm, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, Turok Origins, and Valor Mortis. Halo: Campaign Evolved and the Drift Attack mode in Forza Horizon 6 will also be available. Live broadcasts are scheduled for 7 AM PST on August 26th and 27th, featuring interviews and gameplay reveals. Migrating mission-critical payments at Nubank to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL

Nubank, a digital banking platform with approximately 135 million customers in Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia, faced challenges with its payment infrastructure due to inefficiencies in managing 7.5 TB of self-hosted PostgreSQL databases. Queries took over 13 minutes to execute, and replication lags exceeded four minutes during peak times. To address these issues, Nubank evaluated database solutions based on developer productivity, operational efficiency, performance reliability, and scalability. They selected Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL-Compatible Edition for its compatibility, performance improvements, and automated features. The migration to Aurora was facilitated by AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS), which minimized downtime and allowed for efficient transition. Post-migration, query performance improved significantly, with some queries executing up to 1,900 times faster, and overall end-to-end service latency decreased, enhancing customer experience. The migration resulted in a 25 percent cost reduction and ensured compliance with regulatory requirements.
