Minecraft 26.2 Pre-Release 1

Today marks the unveiling of the first pre-release for version 26.2. Bug fixes are included to refine the overall experience. The Peer-to-Peer connection feature has been removed due to quality concerns. Known issues include potential crashes on systems lacking Vulkan support, which can be worked around by editing the options.txt file. Changes include updated models and textures for Small Sulfur Cubes, new sounds for Sulfur Cubes, and updates to the Sulfur Caves biome. The continuous Geyser setup now requires a source Lava Block. The friend list button will remain visible even if disabled. Technical changes include updates to the Data Pack version (106.1) and Resource Pack version (88.0). New server properties for chat and command spam thresholds have been added. A new world preset, minecraft:flatalldimensions, has been introduced. Entity textures for Sulfur Cubes have been added, and various bugs have been fixed in this pre-release. Pre-releases are available for Minecraft: Java Edition, and players are advised to back up their data.

Google ranks the best AI for building Android apps, and the winner isn’t Gemini

Google launched the Android Bench benchmarking portal in March to help software developers evaluate AI models for Android app development. The leaderboard was updated last week to include open-weight models and new metrics for latency, tokens, and cost. Matthew McCullough, Google's VP of Product for Android Development, stated that the goal is to provide a benchmark for evaluating large language models (LLMs) in Android development. As of May 18, GPT 5.5 is the top AI model for Android app development, with Gemini 3.1 Pro and GPT 5.4 ranked as joint leaders. Android Bench evaluates LLMs based on real-world challenges and tasks sourced from public GitHub repositories. Other benchmarking tools in the Android ecosystem include Jetpack Microbenchmark, Jetpack Macrobenchmark, Firebase Performance Monitoring, Android Vitals, Apptim, and Android Performance Analyzer. The overall benchmark score on Android Bench is calculated using four core values: Confidence Interval Range, Average Latency Score, Average Total Tokens Score, and Average Cost. The test harness for Android Bench is publicly available on GitHub.

A shrine made of gold and netherrack was believed to summon this entity. The Aether, a mod launched in 2011, introduced a hidden dimension accessed through a glowstone portal, designed to complement the Nether. Its developer, Brandon "kingbdogz" Pearce, was later recruited by Mojang. The Aether mod was exclusive to Java, with only imitations like 'Ether' attempting to replicate it. The gaming community is now anticipating an evolution of the Aether's legacy.

Players Find Rare Minecraft Seed with Every Biome near Spawn

A Reddit user, u/ShoowMe7777777, has discovered a Minecraft seed, 8500081009970950196, that generates nearly every biome and essential structure within 1000 blocks of the spawn point. This seed includes all Overworld biomes and significant structures near the 0,0 coordinates. In the Nether dimension, players will find a Nether Fortress, Bastion Remnants, and all five Nether biomes within 250 blocks of the 0,0 coordinates. This seed is specifically for Java Edition players, as Bedrock Edition may have loading issues with structures. The community has reacted positively to this find, as it offers a wealth of resources and biomes for gameplay.

Japanese authorities just dropped a Minecraft map based on actual submarine topographic data, and it lets you explore the seabed from Tokyo Bay to the Mariana Trench

The Japan Coast Guard released a Minecraft map showcasing the submarine topography around Japan's coastline on May 12, coinciding with "Japan Coast Guard Day." The map is available for free download in Java and Bedrock formats and allows players to explore an artistically rendered version of Japan's underwater geography. Players start near Tokyo Bay and can encounter the Seven Islands of Izu and the Iwojima ridge, which includes active volcanoes. The map also features the Mariana Trench, the deepest oceanic trench, which the Japan Coast Guard first measured. The map can be accessed through the Japan Coast Guard's Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department website, and it includes a tool for looking up block coordinates. The initiative follows a similar project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 2025, which created a Minecraft representation of the Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel.

Android 16 VPN Bypass Lets Apps Reveal Users’ Real IP Address

A security vulnerability in Android 16 allows malicious applications to expose a user's real IP address, even with "Always-On VPN" and "Block connections without VPN" features activated. Discovered by security researcher 0x33c0unt and disclosed on April 30, 2026, the flaw exploits the registerQuicConnectionClosePayload feature, which lacks permission checks. This vulnerability has been verified on a Pixel 8 with Proton VPN active. Google has not released a patch, but users can disable the feature via ADB commands.

Minecraft 26.2 Snapshot 7 patch notes: Friends List, Music Disc, and more
