Summer Game Fest 2025 preview: The big games and developers to expect at Friday’s livestream

E3 has transitioned into the Summer Game Fest, led by Geoff Keighley, featuring a livestream on June 6 at 2 pm Pacific on YouTube. New developers include Raw Power Games, working on a medieval sandbox game, and Soft Rains, developing a sci-fi action game. Big studios like 505 Games, 2K Games, Bandai Namco, Capcom, CD Projekt, Embark, IO Interactive, Square Enix, Techland, Xbox, PlayStation, Epic Games, Pearl Abyss, and Sega are expected to showcase new titles or updates. Additional partners include 1047 Games, Amazon Games, Annapurna Interactive, Atari, Bellring Games, Blumhouse Games, Coffee Stain, Devolver Digital, Dotemu, Dreamhaven, Enhance, Focus Entertainment, Frontier, Funcom, iam8bit Presents, Kakao Games, Kinetic Games, Kuro Games, Level Infinite, Magic the Gathering, Megabit, Meta Quest, Mundfish, NCSoft, Nekki, Neowiz, Netmarble, Niantic, Nintendo Switch 2, Nuverse, Playstack, PlaySide, PM Studios, Razer, Supermassive Games, Xsolla, and Yacht Club Games. An "intense body horror" game titled ILL and beta access to Soulframe will also be featured, with Hideo Kojima confirmed to attend.

Steam Has a New Free Game (And It Has Great Reviews)

Steam has released a new free game called Wuthering Waves, available to anyone with a Steam account. The game can be downloaded, played, and kept at no cost. Compatibility issues may arise for Steam Deck users, as the game's compatibility status is currently listed as "Unknown," but developers are working to resolve these issues. Wuthering Waves is a free-to-play open-world action RPG developed by Kuro Games, which debuted on PC and mobile before launching on PS5 on January 2 and on Steam on April 28. The game is inspired by titles like Death Stranding, Pokemon, and Genshin Impact, and has received mixed reviews on Metacritic but holds an 89 percent positive rating from Steam users, earning a "Very Positive" designation. The game offers approximately 20 hours of main content, with side content extending playtime to 60-70 hours, and completionists may spend around 215 hours to uncover all details.

Tencent snaps up majority stake in Kuro Games

Tencent has acquired a majority stake in Kuro Games, increasing its ownership from 14.4 percent to 51.4 percent. Kuro Games, founded in 2014, recently launched its title Wuthering Waves on Steam. Despite the majority stake, Kuro Games will maintain its independence with Tencent adopting a hands-off management style. Tencent's initial investment in Kuro Games was in 2023.
