S&box, a first-person shooter and successor to Garry's Mod, offers a map editor and sandbox mode for constructing vehicles, but does not fully meet the expectations set by its predecessor. The innovative toolset that empowered modders in Garry's Mod is less prominent in S&box, which introduces a business model that may disappoint fans of the original's community-driven content. Currently, S&box faces technical challenges, including a low success rate for multiplayer server connections at around 30%. The front page features remakes of classic Garry's Mod games like Prop Hunt, highlighting ongoing nostalgia for the original.

Microsoft has made the source code for 86-DOS 1.00 available on GitHub to celebrate its 45th anniversary. 86-DOS, developed by Tim Paterson, was foundational for MS-DOS and Windows. This release is part of Microsoft's effort to preserve historically significant software. Microsoft previously released the source code for MS-DOS versions 1.25, 2.11, and 4.0. A team of historians and preservationists has gathered and transcribed DOS-era source listings, including the 86-DOS 1.00 kernel and development snapshots of the PC-DOS 1.00 kernel. Microsoft acquired 86-DOS from Seattle Computer Products for approximately ,000 and modified it to deliver PC-DOS 1.0 in August 1981, which became known as MS-DOS for IBM-compatible computers.

Microsoft Defender Antivirus, originally launched in 1993 as Microsoft Anti-Virus for MS-DOS, has evolved over the years but historically struggled with effective malware protection. Recent improvements have led to better performance in independent lab tests. Microsoft claims that Defender's built-in capabilities are sufficient for protection against various threats, but it acknowledges that third-party antivirus solutions may be necessary for users with multiple devices. Defender's phishing protection is limited to the Edge browser, and it lacks many features found in competing antivirus products, such as advanced scam protection and a user-friendly interface. While Defender offers basic protection, it may not meet the needs of most users in today's digital landscape.
