Minecraft 26.2 Snapshot 2

A second snapshot for version 26.2 has been released to address critical issues and crashes from the earlier version. Changes: - Performance Improvements: Upgrading certain worlds from prior to version 26.1 is now faster. - Technical Changes: The fps F3 screen now provides detailed information about the present mode in use. Fixed Bugs in 26.2 Snapshot 2: - MC-306840: Dolphins no longer drown when no players are nearby. - MC-307286: Fixed a bug preventing the game process from terminating upon exit. - MC-307296: Addressed a softlock when launching the game with an incompatible resource pack. - MC-307311: Core shaders now load correctly without a restart when using Vulkan. - MC-307320: Resolved a crash issue affecting some GPUs when using Vulkan. - MC-307349: Fixed a crash that occurred before the game could open. - MC-307383: The "Exclusive Fullscreen" setting is now functional with Vulkan. Snapshots are available for Minecraft: Java Edition, and players should back up their data before testing. A cross-platform server jar is also available, and players are encouraged to report bugs and provide feedback.

This fake Windows support website delivers password-stealing malware

A phishing campaign has been identified that uses a counterfeit Microsoft support website, microsoft-update[.]support, to trick users into downloading a malicious Windows update disguised as WindowsUpdate 1.0.0.msi. This file, created on April 4, 2026, appears legitimate but contains malware designed to steal sensitive information. The campaign targets French-speaking users, leveraging recent data breaches in France to create convincing scams. The malware, once executed, installs an Electron application that runs a Python interpreter, which then deploys various data theft tools. It employs two persistence mechanisms: modifying the Windows registry and creating a shortcut in the Startup folder. The malware connects to external sites for reconnaissance and data exfiltration, using domains like datawebsync-lvmv.onrender[.]com and store8.gofile[.]io. The malware's components have evaded detection by antivirus tools, with VirusTotal reporting zero detections for the main executable and its launcher. Users are advised to check their registry, remove suspicious files, change passwords, and run a full system scan if they suspect installation of the malicious update. Safe updating practices include using the built-in Windows update feature and being cautious of phishing attempts. Indicators of compromise include specific file hashes, domains associated with the phishing campaign, and file system artifacts related to the malware's installation.

New Copilot for Windows 11 includes a full Microsoft Edge package, uses more RAM

A new iteration of Copilot is being released for Windows 11, transitioning from native code (WinUI) to web components and including a full version of Microsoft Edge. The update replaces the previous native app and is available for download through the Microsoft Store, which now requires an installer similar to the Microsoft Edge installer. The new Copilot resembles the web version and has higher RAM usage, consuming up to 500MB in the background and nearly 1GB during use, compared to less than 100MB for the previous version. The new Copilot is a hybrid web application that operates with a rebranded instance of Edge within a WebView2 container, including a complete Microsoft Edge installation that occupies approximately 850 MB. It contains the msedge.dll file, confirming the presence of a full Chromium browser engine, and includes Edge subsystems like Browser Helper Objects and Trust Protection Lists. The Copilot app functions as a web app rendered via WebView2, raising questions about the necessity of such applications on Windows 11 given the existing alternatives.
