Challenges encountered during development included issues with deployment and code editing post-deployment. Future plans for the site include enhancing details for Android releases and devices, and incorporating additional device categories like tablets and wearables.

Twitter Co-Founder Jack Dorsey’s Bitchat Aims to Kickstart the Offline Messaging Revolution

Jack Dorsey is developing Bitchat, a decentralized messaging application created over a weekend. It operates on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh networks, allowing devices within a 300-meter range to exchange encrypted messages without the need for internet connectivity or phone numbers. Bitchat forms a dynamic mesh network where messages can hop through nearby devices if a direct connection is unavailable. Messages are end-to-end encrypted, stored only on the sender's and receiver's devices, and disappear after a set time. Users can create group discussions, called "rooms," with hashtags and passwords, and a "Panic Mode" feature enables quick data deletion. Bitchat includes store-and-forward messaging for offline users and has plans for a Wi-Fi Direct update. The app does not collect personal information or track user activity, making it suitable for use in regions with censorship or network issues. Its beta launch on TestFlight quickly reached 10,000 users, and it features a minimalist interface for ease of use. The open-source code is available on GitHub for developer contributions.

Steam is down — live updates on outage

Reports of an outage on the Steam platform began around 9:50 a.m. Pacific Time, peaking at approximately 3,000 reports by 10:30 a.m. The Steam Store was marked as offline, while other services were functioning normally. The Steam Charts page was also experiencing issues, despite over 32 million users being online. The Steam Summer Sale was ongoing, with significant discounts, which may have contributed to the server overload. Down Detector reported over 4,400 outage reports, with users unable to purchase games or access their wishlists. Users encountered problems loading their carts and wishlists, and the outage continued for several hours, with reports climbing to nearly 5,000. After a couple of hours, users noticed improvements, and reports on Down Detector decreased to around 1,200, indicating that the platform was returning to normal.

A more Google-y Gemini logo may be right around the corner (APK teardown)

Google is updating its Gemini interface to incorporate its iconic red, blue, green, and yellow colors, moving away from the previous two-tone color scheme. An APK teardown of the Google app revealed a new animated Gemini logo featuring these colors in the latest beta version (16.24.66.sa.arm64 beta). The onboarding screens have also been updated to reflect the new color scheme, with text now appearing in black. The chat interface will feature a new color gradient for greetings, a blue gradient above responses, and a loading animation that includes the full spectrum of Google colors. These updates are not yet available to end users.
