Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding were developed using Guerrilla Games' Decima engine, which has been in development for over 13 years. Akio Sakamoto, CTO of Kojima Productions, noted that the Decima engine offers many capabilities for building open-world games, despite some features being less user-friendly than those in commercial engines. The collaboration between Kojima Productions and Guerrilla Games, particularly for Horizon Forbidden West, has demonstrated the benefits of custom software in an industry leaning towards widely adopted engines like Unreal. Sakamoto mentioned that they have been using the Decima engine for nearly ten years, highlighting its effectiveness in achieving goals that would be challenging with other engines.

Microsoft has decided to discontinue support for V3 and V4 printer drivers as part of its Windows 11 updates. Printers using these drivers will continue to function, but lack of updates may lead to future support challenges. Starting January 2026, Microsoft will stop distributing new drivers for V3 and V4 models through Windows Update. User feedback has been mostly positive, with some expressing relief at the focus on modern architecture, while concerns remain about reliance on printer manufacturers for driver updates.

Proton VPN has discontinued support for the OpenVPN protocol in its Android application as of February 17, aiming to enhance user experience by promoting faster protocols like WireGuard and its proprietary Stealth protocol. This change reduced the app's size by approximately 36% and was driven by the fact that OpenVPN was used by less than 1% of Android users. The transition to WireGuard and Stealth improves performance with near-instant connection times and reduced battery consumption. OpenVPN can still be accessed through third-party configurations on Proton's servers.

Enterprise and Education editions will be supported until March 13, 2029, while Home and Pro editions will be supported until March 14, 2028. Windows 11 SE is not supported in 26H1. Microsoft will begin rolling out new Secure Boot certificates through Windows Update starting in March 2026, coinciding with the expiration of original certificates from 2011, which will phase out in June 2026. The new certificates include Microsoft Corporation KEK 2K CA 2023, Microsoft UEFI CA 2023, Microsoft Option ROM UEFI CA 2023, and Windows UEFI CA 2023. Not all Windows users will receive the update simultaneously; eligibility will focus on high-confidence devices with strong update histories. Newer PCs sold from 2024 will already have the 2023 Secure Boot certificates, while some devices may require additional firmware updates from their OEMs. PCs that do not receive the new certificates will still boot but will operate with diminished security, increasing vulnerability to exploits and compatibility issues with anti-cheat software and future Windows versions. Users on unsupported Windows versions will not receive the new certificates, leading to heightened security risks after June 2026.

Google aims to transform Android into a comprehensive desktop operating system, but faces several challenges. The mobile-first design of Android complicates the transition to desktop, as true desktop productivity requires features like advanced window management and keyboard shortcuts, which many Android apps do not support. Additionally, the optimization of applications for desktop use is uncertain, and developers may not have incentives to adapt their software, leading to poorly optimized user experiences. Android's file management system is less intuitive than traditional desktop operating systems, which could frustrate users handling large projects. Concerns about Google's commitment to long-term support for an Android desktop OS arise from its history of discontinuing projects. Lastly, if the platform does not offer specialized solutions for professionals, it risks becoming mediocre and failing to attract users.
