Google is cracking down on Play Store apps that serve no purpose or exhibit minimal functionality, targeting spam, misleading claims, political misinformation, and fraudulent apps. The updated policies will tighten permissions for accessing user files and require new apps to target the Android 14 API. Apps must support at least the Android 13 API to avoid being hidden from users.
