90% of APAC Gen Z Experienced Cyber Incidents: Kaspersky Study

Recent research from Kaspersky highlights that 57% of Generation Z spends more time online than offline, with 75% of APAC Gen Zs using smartphones for daily internet access. Approximately two-thirds of Gen Zs in APAC feel comfortable navigating the digital environment, with confidence levels peaking at 77% in Indonesia and 71% in Vietnam. However, only 26% consider their knowledge of digital risks advanced, with India leading at 35%. Only 22% of Gen Zs in APAC use antivirus software, and 35% change their passwords regularly. Alarmingly, 90% have experienced at least one cyber incident in the past year. Smartphones are seen as critical for storing personal documents and passwords, yet only a third of Gen Zs back up important information regularly. Kaspersky emphasizes the need for cybersecurity measures to be integrated into daily routines and has introduced an interactive game to raise awareness among Gen Z users. The study surveyed 7,200 respondents across 18 countries in March 2026.

Russia Seeks New Charges Against Teenager Accused of Blowing Up FSB Building in Minecraft

Russia is intensifying its legal pursuit of Nikita Uvarov, a teenager arrested in June 2020 in Kansk for distributing political leaflets targeting the FSB. Uvarov, then 14, was apprehended alongside two peers and has since been referred to as part of the Kansk affair. The Investigative Committee is seeking to impose additional charges based on audio recordings obtained during his incarceration, alleging Uvarov's involvement in an extremist organization, which could extend his sentence by 12 years. He was originally sentenced to five years in prison on terrorism charges, with the FSB using his gameplay in Minecraft as evidence. Uvarov maintained his innocence, stating he was just a kid wanting to socialize. He is expected to be released in March 2026, but the new charges complicate his situation. His two companions were released without facing charges.

Google’s Rival App Store Installation Process Faces Court Order

Google has started allowing rival Android app stores to be distributed through its Play Store due to court-ordered compliance measures. Epic Games has criticized the complicated installation process for these competing marketplaces, which includes multiple steps and warnings that could deter users. Judge Donato identified these extra steps as unnecessary "anticompetitive friction" and ordered Google to simplify the installation process within a week. Additionally, Epic Games raised concerns about search results in Google Play, where searches for app stores predominantly show physical retail locations instead of third-party app stores. Judge Donato deemed this unacceptable and instructed Google to address the search result issues. Google is also preparing to launch a new sideloading process starting September 30, 2026, which will involve a mandatory 24-hour waiting period.

Aptoide Games Joins Google Play: First Rival Android Store in Over Decade

Xodus Cracks Xbox Authentication and Game Package Decryption to Bring PC Game Pass to Linux

Developers of the Heroic Games Launcher have announced Xodus, an open-source project aimed at enabling access to PC Game Pass on Linux and macOS. Launched on August 10, 2026, Xodus has successfully addressed Xbox identity authentication and the decryption of MSIXVC packages, allowing local play of Game Pass titles for Linux and macOS users. Currently, the only way to access Game Pass on non-Windows devices is through Xbox Cloud Gaming, which requires a Game Pass Ultimate subscription and introduces latency. Xodus employs a layered architecture, including an Xbox Authentication Library (xal-rs) for managing Microsoft account sign-ins and license verification, and a reimplementation of the xgameruntime.dll for license checks and Xbox service access. The project can retrieve MSIXVC game packages using a valid Game Pass subscription and decrypt executables for local storage. However, it does not yet support UWP-based titles and lacks a user-friendly interface for general users. The project is under pressure due to Microsoft's upcoming transition to the MSIXVC2 package format, which Xodus does not currently support. Xodus is in early development with only a command-line interface available, and the team is working on emulating the GDK Gaming Services layer necessary for game initialization. The project is legal as it reimplements Xbox runtime behavior without enabling piracy, but it faces risks if Microsoft alters its authentication infrastructure.

Microsoft plans to roll out improvements tested since March more broadly in the autumn, although it remains unclear if these changes will apply to all supported versions of Windows 11. Users with 8 GB of RAM will not need to take immediate action, as the new memory management features will be revealed in future updates.
