Microsoft is transforming the Windows Search feature in Windows 11 to improve speed, accuracy, and utility. The new experience will allow users to perform tasks directly from the Taskbar and will include file previews, enriched web results, and integration with Copilot. A preview is available through the Windows Insider Program, with more features expected later this year and deeper integration with the Start menu planned by 2027. The introduction of WinUI 3 will enhance performance and search accuracy. Users can perform actions like switching to Dark mode, enabling Bluetooth, adjusting volume levels, and arranging windows directly from the Search box. Future updates will include inline file previews and richer web results, with AI-generated responses for certain queries through Copilot integration. The new Windows Search experience is accessible to Insiders running specific builds and can be enabled manually if not visible after installing the latest preview build. It does not require a Copilot+ PC or an NPU, as it uses a small machine-learning model that operates locally. Currently, it cannot perform actions on connected phones, but a feature for sending text messages is in development. The redesigned interface will be smaller and include inline previews and richer file details, along with comprehensive web results. Filters will be introduced to refine search results by category. The rollout for Insiders began on October 7, 2026, with plans for richer search results and Copilot integration later this year, and the new Search experience is expected to be incorporated into the Start menu by 2027. A general availability date for all Windows 11 users has not been announced.

Malwarebytes reports a 147% increase in spyware incidents among Android users in the first half of 2025, with SMS-based malware rising by 692% in one month. Symptoms of spyware include sluggish device performance, overheating, rapid battery drain, and excessive data usage. Recommended spyware removal applications for Android include Avast Antivirus & Security, Avira Antivirus Security, Bitdefender Mobile Security, and Kaspersky Premium for Android. Users can manually remove spyware by rebooting in safe mode and uninstalling malicious apps. To revoke administrator permissions from malicious applications, users should navigate to Settings, select Security and Privacy, and choose Device admin apps. Users are advised to exercise caution when downloading apps, even from the Google Play Store, and to implement additional security measures to reduce infection risks.

A spare tablet, a USB cable, and a small investment can turn a workspace or kitchen counter into a hub for Android Auto, allowing users to repurpose older devices. To set up Android Auto without a car, you need an Android phone running Android 11 or newer, a spare Android tablet or phone, and a data-capable USB cable. A receiver app, such as Open Headunit or Headunit Reloaded, must be installed on the secondary device. The setup involves connecting the tablet to the phone via USB, selecting Android Auto in the phone's USB options, and following prompts to grant permissions. Android Auto is designed for driving, simplifying interactions with larger controls and allowing voice commands for messages. It can manage smart home devices through Google Home but may not always function reliably. A spare tablet can be positioned conveniently for essential tasks, but trade-offs include limited app availability and the need for the primary phone to remain connected.

Zone chats in MMOs serve as social platforms for players, often leading to chaotic and humorous exchanges. The "Barrens Chat" in World of Warcraft is noted for its vibrant and unrestrained chatter, while a bot named Margrave Tyrael repeatedly posted automated messages about beta character deletions. In Final Fantasy 14, the marketplace of Ul'dah also hosts outrageous conversations despite stricter moderation. These chats reflect a unique and authentic form of communication within the gaming community, showcasing creativity and spontaneity.

A high school student named Emirhan Duman developed an app called Crisis Connect in response to communication failures during the February 6, 2023, earthquakes in southern Türkiye and northern Syria. The app uses Bluetooth technology to allow users to send messages and make calls without cellular or internet connections, particularly useful in disaster scenarios. Crisis Connect enables nearby phones to exchange messages, creating a network that can reach isolated individuals. It includes features like SOS beacons, a compass, live location broadcasting, and a metal detector. The app conserves battery life by default but can be activated in emergencies. Crisis Connect is available for free on the App Store and Google Play, and its open-source code allows for global contributions.

A report from Bitdefender reveals a malware campaign named "Midnight Mimosa" affecting budget and midrange Android smartphones, particularly those using low-energy MediaTek chipsets. This malware, embedded in devices marketed under various labels like Cubot and Doogee, operates through an application called "System" (package name com.android.system.lite) that displays hidden ads and can allow hackers to control the devices. Thousands of devices have been tracked with this malware, with 13% of affected devices located in Mexico, 8% in the United States, and less than 3% in Canada. The malware's source traces back to Android ODM Shenzhen Zediel. Additionally, Bitdefender identified 13 other ad fraud-related apps signed by the same entity that were previously available on the Google Play Store. Major manufacturers like Google, Motorola, and Samsung have security protocols to protect their firmware, unlike the affected budget brands.

Ledger has introduced Ledger Atom, a security device designed to enhance the protection of sensitive digital activities while allowing the use of everyday applications. It operates on an open-source Android platform for regular apps and a security-focused operating system for sensitive operations, utilizing a secure element chip and a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) for communication between the two environments. Ledger Atom features an integration with OpenClaw, an AI agent platform, which allows AI agents to suggest actions but requires physical approval for sensitive operations. It includes a physical privacy switch that cuts power to the device's cameras and microphones, and supports GPG/OpenPGP encryption for messages. Ledger Atom is positioned as a quantum-ready signing device with post-quantum cryptography and anti-tampering measures. Reservations for a limited Founder’s Edition are open at a price of 9, with an expected launch in summer 2027, pending necessary certifications.
