Gemini integration in Android Auto enhances hands-free functionality, allowing drivers to use natural voice commands for navigation, music, and phone features without touching their devices. Users can activate voice commands by saying "Hey Google" or using a dedicated steering wheel button, depending on the vehicle model. Navigation can be managed entirely through voice, enabling users to request routes, add stops, and report issues without screen interaction. Android Auto also supports hands-free control for calls and messages, allowing users to answer and respond without taking their hands off the wheel. Automations can be set up to start Android Auto and media playback automatically when the phone connects to the vehicle, streamlining the driving experience.

Microsoft introduced a feature called point-in-time restore in Windows 11, which creates snapshots of the system every 24 hours to enhance recovery options. This feature began rolling out in late June 2026 and is typically enabled by default for boot drives of 200GB or larger. It uses the Volume Shadow Copy Service to generate restore points that are available for 72 hours before being purged. The feature can consume significant storage space, initially occupying 3.9GB and potentially increasing to over 18GB within two months, reaching a maximum of 2% of the total disk space. Users can adjust the storage usage settings or disable the feature entirely to reclaim space. The default maximum usage can be modified to as low as 0.2%. There are concerns that this feature should have been opt-in rather than opt-out due to its storage implications.

AccuBattery is a battery management app that helps users identify and diagnose software and hardware issues draining their device's battery. It offers a distinct approach by using pattern recognition over time for data gathering, which can yield more accurate insights compared to built-in tools. AccuBattery provides detailed statistics, including mAh consumption of each app, current, temperature, and voltage, facilitating easier diagnosis of potential hardware issues. Users can benefit from using AccuBattery alongside built-in tools, as each may catch what the other overlooks. The app includes a charge alarm feature that notifies users when their battery reaches 80%, promoting better battery longevity. However, AccuBattery relies on observational data, which may not always be perfectly accurate. It is not categorically superior or inferior to built-in tools but offers depth of detail that can be beneficial for users facing persistent battery issues.

Google's Contacts app is developing a feature that will allow users to share their Calling Cards with new acquaintances without needing an initial phone call. The latest version of the app (4.88.28.981523105) is integrating Calling Card images into Virtual Contact File (VCF) files, enabling seamless sharing of visual business cards. Users can select the “Share contact” option, which will display the Calling Card image prominently. A new toggle for the Calling Card option will be included by default when choosing details to share. Users can send the enriched VCF file via platforms like Quick Share, WhatsApp, or email. This feature applies to both the user's own Calling Card and those of any contacts in their address book. Recipients can easily import the VCF file in Google Contacts, where the Calling Card image will be displayed. However, recipients need the Google Contacts app to fully import the Calling Card data.
