Microsoft is shutting down its lightweight Outlook Lite app for Android in 6 weeks

Microsoft will retire Outlook Lite, its lightweight email client for Android, on May 25, 2026. Support for the app will cease, and new downloads were halted on October 6, 2025. Users can continue using the app until retirement, but after that date, mailbox access will be disabled. All emails, calendar items, and attachments will remain accessible through the main Outlook mobile app. Microsoft has added an Upgrade button in Outlook Lite to direct users to download the full Outlook mobile app.

If you’ve got a CMF Watch, the Nothing X app is taking over: this is what you need to know

Nothing will phase out the CMF Watch app, removing it from app stores on April 3, and users are encouraged to migrate to the Nothing X app. Full functionality of the Nothing X app is expected by July 19, 2026. Users must begin transferring their data now, which will deactivate their CMF Watch app accounts. The Watch 3 Pro, launched in July 2025, features a four-channel heart rate sensor, 131 sports modes, a 1.43-inch AMOLED display, dual-band GPS, and a battery life of 13 days. CMF Watches offer budget-friendly options and have received a million investment from Optiemus to enhance their capabilities. CMF operates independently from Nothing, headquartered in India, and has created around 1,800 jobs.

PSA: CMF Watch owners need to switch over to a new app

Nothing plans to phase out the CMF Watch app, which will be removed from app stores on April 3, 2026, with the Google Play Store discontinuing it by the end of that year. Users must begin pairing their devices with the Nothing X app by July 19, 2026, to ensure a seamless transition. Essential data such as workout records, daily activity, sleep patterns, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, stress metrics, active score, and training load (for Watch Pro 2 users) will be transferred, while personal details like nicknames, avatars, height and weight, and female health data must be re-entered manually. Custom watch faces will not transfer, and CMF Watch app accounts will be deactivated once migration begins. Users should log into the Nothing X app, connect their smartwatch, and select the Data Migration option to initiate the process. Support is available for those who need assistance.

Netflix Automates RDS PostgreSQL to Aurora PostgreSQL Migration Across 400 Production Clusters

Netflix has developed an internal automation platform to migrate Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL databases to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, reducing operational risks and downtime for nearly 400 production clusters. The platform allows service teams to perform migrations through a self-service workflow while ensuring processes like replication validation and rollback safeguards are maintained. Database access is managed through a platform-managed layer using Envoy, which standardizes mutual TLS and abstracts database endpoints, enhancing security and efficiency. The migration process starts with creating an Aurora PostgreSQL cluster as a read replica of the source RDS instance, initialized from a storage snapshot and continuously replaying write-ahead log (WAL) records. Validation checks are performed to ensure the replica can handle peak write throughput before cutover. For change data capture workloads, the system coordinates the state of replication slots and pauses CDC consumers to prevent excessive WAL retention. The Enablement Applications team at Netflix successfully migrated databases for device certification and partner billing workflows, addressing issues like elevated replication lag due to inactive logical replication slots. As replication lag decreases, the system enters a controlled quiescence phase, adjusts security rules, and reboots the source RDS instance. Once all transactions are processed and the Aurora replica is ready, it is promoted to a writable cluster, and traffic is rerouted. Rollback capabilities are prioritized, allowing redirection back to the original RDS instance if validation checks fail or anomalies are detected post-promotion. This setup enables seamless restoration without redeployment, and CDC consumers can resume from recorded slot positions if needed.

Microsoft expands Windows restore to more enterprise devices

Microsoft has introduced a feature that allows enterprise users to restore personal settings and Microsoft Store applications from a previous Windows 11 device during their first login on a new or reimaged device using a Microsoft Entra ID account. This feature is part of Windows Backup for Organizations, which streamlines the migration process to Windows 11. The restore capability has been expanded to support hybrid-managed environments, multi-user device configurations, and Windows 365 Cloud PCs. Users will receive a prompt during the first login to either restore from a previous device's backup or set up the device as new, but those who bypass this step will not receive another prompt. IT administrators can manage this feature through Microsoft Intune or Group Policy. The feature will be available for devices with Windows updates released on February 24, 2026, and later. Windows Backup for Organizations was first announced in November 2024, reached public preview in May 2025, and became generally available in August.
