The upcoming Focus feature in the Windows Clock app includes enhancements aimed at improving user productivity, such as integration with Tasks, a visually appealing interface, analytics on focus sessions, and customization options. It will leverage the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) in newer Windows PCs, particularly enhancing the Insights feature, although the NPU page in the test version is mainly for debugging. The current test version lacks traditional elements like the clock and timer, featuring a modernized aesthetic with rounded corners. Users can customize their experience with music playback, volume adjustments, and background images. The redesigned tasks pane allows sorting by various criteria and includes options for AI-generated suggestions. Integration with Microsoft To Do is seamless, and a feature called Reflection prompts users to evaluate their focus sessions. An Insights page for focus sessions is under development, and initial tests show the new app consumes nearly double the RAM of its predecessor. The Settings page offers extensive customization options, including focus and break durations, and hints at future integration with e-learning platforms. Users can enable Focus insights to monitor concentration levels and pause sessions when needed. The timeline for the rollout of the new features remains unclear.

Gemini Live, a feature within Google's ecosystem, is being redesigned to enhance user experience on Android devices. The new design will integrate Gemini Live into the Gemini app's homepage instead of occupying the entire screen. The top bar will read “Live with Gemini” and include a transcript button. The prompt box has been replaced with a pill-shaped container showcasing a blue waveform, allowing users to share their camera or screen from the left side and mute the microphone from the right side. Exiting Gemini Live can be done through a keyboard icon or the system back gesture. This redesign is currently being tested with beta users of the Google app (version 17.14) and is exclusive to the Gemini app. The overlay remains unchanged for now, but future plans include aligning it with the new in-app aesthetic.

Rita El Khoury is transitioning from Google Drive to Proton Drive due to privacy concerns. A poll indicated that 62% of respondents would consider moving away from Google Drive for security reasons. El Khoury values Proton Drive's end-to-end encryption, which ensures only users can access their files, unlike Google Drive, which lacks this feature. She appreciates Proton Drive's unified interface and minimalist design in Proton Docs, but notes its limitations, such as fewer convenience features and only 5GB of free storage compared to Google Drive's 15GB. The choice between the two services depends on individual priorities regarding privacy and features.

Megan Ellis transitioned from Notion back to Google Keep, seeking simplicity and focus in her digital life. She initially chose Google Keep for its straightforwardness but later moved to Notion for advanced features, which led to overwhelm due to its complexity and extensive customization options. This complexity resulted in unnecessary tracking and clutter, prompting her return to Google Keep, where she appreciates its minimalist design and ease of use. While she values the simplicity of Google Keep, she misses the personalization and advanced features that Notion provided. Ellis advises that the decision to switch productivity tools depends on individual needs and preferences, emphasizing that some may prefer the all-in-one capabilities of Notion while others benefit from a minimalist approach.
