A pair of Armored Core games are being freed from their 2000s Japanese mobile phone prison with an upcoming PC port

Armored Core, a series from FromSoftware, has gained popularity since its debut on the PlayStation 1. PC players recently accessed the franchise with Armored Core 6, and two more titles are on the way, though they will not have English language options. Developer G-Mode is set to release Armored Core Mobile Mission and its sequel, Mobile Mission 2, on Steam, with the first installment launching on April 30th. The original Mobile Mission offers a top-down shooter experience with mech customization, while the sequel aims for a more immersive gameplay experience. G-Mode is also porting Shin Megami Tensei titles, Tokyo Requiem and 20XX, to modern platforms, although release dates for these are not confirmed.

Microsoft is streamlining logins for Windows, Xbox, and M365

Microsoft is transforming its Microsoft Account (MSA) sign-in experience to create a modern interface across web and mobile platforms, with plans for Windows to follow. By the end of April, users will see a revamped login and registration process with a streamlined flow and fewer elements per screen. NCSoft’s PC Games Struggle as Lineage Mobile Generates More Revenue Than Their All PC Games Combined

NCSoft's revenues have sharply declined since peaking in 2022, with 2024 revenues falling below 2017 levels. The company's stock price has decreased by 71% over the past five years. The transition from PC gaming to mobile platforms initially increased revenues, but profitability has suffered due to high platform fees from Apple and Google. NCSoft's legacy MMOs, like Lineage and Lineage 2, avoid these fees. Currently, Lineage M generates more revenue than all of NCSoft's PC games combined, and in 2022, Lineage W brought in nearly three times the revenue of the entire PC game portfolio. However, revenue from Lineage W has also declined. The player base for Throne and Liberty has decreased rapidly, raising concerns about its long-term viability. The upcoming release of Aion 2 is expected in the latter half of 2025, but expectations for success are cautious.

Android App on Google Play Targets Indian Users to Steal Login Credentials

A recently uncovered Android application, Finance Simplified (package: com.someca.count), is a malware platform disguised as a financial management tool for Indian users. It has rapidly gained downloads, increasing from 50,000 to 100,000 in one week. The app uses location-based targeting to present unauthorized loan applications and redirects users to external websites that bypass Google Play’s security. It requests extensive permissions, including access to location data, contacts, call logs, SMS messages, clipboard content, and external storage, and stealthily collects sensitive information like passwords and credit card numbers, which are sent to a command-and-control server on Amazon EC2. The app employs tactics such as dynamic WebView manipulation to present fake loan applications, persistent data harvesting, and blackmail through altered user photos. Finance Simplified is part of a network of fraudulent apps that falsely claim registration with Indian financial regulators and have been removed from the Play Store for fraudulent activities. Users are advised to scrutinize app permissions and avoid downloading unverified applications.
