Microsoft's initiative to enable Android users to purchase and play console games through the Xbox app is currently delayed due to a "temporary administrative stay" from the courts, linked to the ongoing legal dispute between Google and Epic Games. Xbox president Sarah Bond indicated that the feature was expected to launch in November for Android devices in the U.S., but the legal situation has hindered this rollout. The delay follows a favorable jury verdict for Epic Games, which led to a court order requiring Google to open its marketplace and eliminate its billing requirements, set to take effect on November 1. However, Google has appealed and received a stay on these changes. Google spokesperson Dan Jackson claimed that Microsoft has always had the ability to offer this functionality but chose not to, citing security concerns over a rushed implementation. Despite the setback, Microsoft is continuing to expand its mobile offerings, including a beta for game streaming on various devices and plans for a dedicated mobile store, which has been postponed for further research.

Google was found guilty of maintaining an illegal monopoly on the distribution of applications, forcing them to open up PlayStore to market competition for the next three years. This ruling will allow Xbox games to be purchased easier and directly from within the app on Android devices, improving the gaming experience on the go. Microsoft is also developing a browser-based Xbox mobile store for first-party mobile games and promotional offers.

Microsoft and Xbox will soon allow players to purchase and play Xbox games directly through the Android Xbox App starting in November. This development follows a court ruling on October 7 that removed restrictions on Google's billing system, enabling Microsoft to bypass Google’s cut on purchases made through the app. While similar functionalities exist on other platforms like PlayStation and Valve, developers can choose to disable this feature for their titles, potentially requiring a PC or console for gameplay. The introduction of this feature enhances Xbox Cloud Gaming, which has expanded across various platforms, and may lead to a more affordable, cloud-only subscription tier in the future.

Xbox will soon allow players to buy and play games directly through its Xbox App on Android devices, following a U.S. court ruling against Google's control over billing systems in its Play Store. This change will enable Xbox to sell games through its Android app without Google taking a portion of the in-app purchases, potentially leading to better pricing for players and more direct relationships between Xbox and its customers.
