Since the Tricky Trials update in June 2024, Minecraft has been at version 1.21, as Mojang Studios shifted to more frequent, smaller updates instead of large annual releases. Mojang is revamping its version numbering system to better reflect this new update cadence, with the latest game drop titled "The Copper Age" designated as version 1.21.9 for Java Edition and 1.21.110 for Bedrock Edition. The first snapshot for the upcoming Mounts of Mayhem update will be labeled as 25.4-snapshot-1. The familiar "Minecraft 1.x.x" format will be retired, with the Mounts of Mayhem update scheduled for release on December 9 and the first update of the new year recognized as Minecraft 26.1. Mojang has also pledged to eliminate code obfuscation from Minecraft: Java Edition to enhance the modding experience.

A duo of modders, Blue & Blood, is creating a total conversion mod for Grand Theft Auto that shifts the narrative focus from a young gangster to a police officer dealing with corruption. The project is led by modder Cascavel and software engineer giacobbe. Their inspiration came from a game called Schedule I, which demonstrated the potential of a single developer to create a resonant world. They are also developing GTA Palmline, a reimagining of Vice City that incorporates mechanics from San Andreas. The modders are managing multiple projects, including a secret indie project influenced by various games. They aim to maintain a high level of polish in their work while balancing their ambitions with achievable goals.

Blizzard Entertainment is implementing significant changes to the information accessible to combat addon creators in World of Warcraft Midnight, which will affect popular addons like WeakAuras. The WeakAuras team has announced they will not support the addon in the upcoming expansion due to the introduction of 'secret values' that conceal combat-related information. The team believes these changes hinder the core functionality of WeakAuras, which relies on tracking personal combat states. Major changes include restrictions on addons' ability to send and receive chat messages during combat, concealment of NPC identities and buffs/debuffs, and obscuring personal combat states. Game director Ion Hazzikostas stated that the goal of these changes is to prevent addons from providing a competitive advantage over players using the base user interface. The WeakAuras team feels that Blizzard's approach is incompatible with their addon’s purpose and has criticized the communication regarding these changes. Players may need to find alternative solutions for their addon needs in the Midnight expansion.

TimeSplitters Rewind has been released after 13 years of development. It is a fan-driven project that serves as a remake and compilation of the original TimeSplitters trilogy, described as a "greatest hits collection" of maps, modes, leagues, challenges, and story content. The project initially started with Crytek's approval for modders to use CryEngine but faced challenges, including a shift to Unreal Engine 4 that ultimately failed due to policy violations. In 2020, the team expanded significantly after a call for assistance from art lead Cameron Williams. The project aims to enhance the original games using CryEngine to appeal to both long-time fans and a new audience.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2, released on PS5 in late 2023 and set to launch on Steam in early 2024, features a character-swapping mechanic similar to that of Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V). The character-switching mechanic in GTA V was first discovered by a user named Silent on GTA Forums in 2012 and allows players to switch between three protagonists: Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. A modder named Kaizo has developed a project called Real Multiple Protagonists, which utilizes Rockstar's original source code to enhance this mechanic. Kaizo explains that while GTA: San Andreas had a two-player mode that allowed character switching, it required extensive coding to unlock its full potential. His mod draws inspiration from GTA V's aerial transition and aims to replicate it, although it is limited to free roam mode without mission code. Kaizo faced technical challenges, particularly with camera transitions and UI development, but found the process rewarding. His work has revived interest in San Andreas' two-player mode, demonstrating the enduring appeal of the game and the impact of modding.

Hytale was originally developed by Hypixel Studios and acquired by Riot Games in 2020. Riot announced the cancellation of Hytale in June, but a deal was made with Hypixel's co-founder, Simon Collins-Laflamme, to revive the project. Hypixel has shared gameplay footage and aims to combine elements from Minecraft and platforms like Roblox. The game faced delays under Riot's management, but Hypixel is now focused on delivering a playable version and will announce an early access release date soon. They have decided to revert to the original engine for development while planning future cross-platform functionality. Collins-Laflamme noted that the current version has imperfections but shows promise, and he assured that Hytale will not take any revenue from modders and server owners for the first two years.
