Minecraft, launched in 2009, has received numerous updates and contributions from modders, resource pack creators, and shader developers. The Aether Team introduced a mod called The Aether in 2011, which adds a new dimension to the game. They are now preparing to release Aether 2.0, featuring beautiful landscapes, high winds, vast oceans of cloud, and deep caves. Aether 2 will include unique materials like Gravitite for crafting new equipment with supernatural abilities. Minecraft is celebrating its 15th anniversary, and the community remains engaged, even improving chat moderation on anarchy servers.

The gaming landscape once featured numerous titles inspired by The Simpsons, but today, there is a noticeable absence of new games. The Simpsons: Hit and Run is considered the best Simpsons game, and while there is no official modern port or remaster, players can revisit it through Donut Team's custom PC launcher, which enhances the original PC port and adds new features. Obtaining a copy of the game for PC can be challenging, with prices for sealed copies on platforms like eBay being high. The launcher supports modern controller use, improved visuals, and bug fixes, and also offers a library of mods that add new content. Donut Team's launcher is compatible with the Steam Deck, allowing players to run the game on the device with some setup. Emulating the game through PCXS2 or Dolphin is another option, although it lacks the enhancements of the updated PC version. Playing the game on original hardware, such as the PS2, is considered less appealing compared to modern platforms.

Mojang is transitioning Minecraft Java Edition from the OpenGL framework to the Vulkan API, with a gradual rollout starting with snapshot versions and a stable release expected in summer 2026. This change is driven by the outdated nature of OpenGL and Apple's discontinuation of support for it on new macOS devices. Vulkan offers native support for Windows and Linux, and compatibility with macOS, aiming to improve stability across all platforms. The transition will introduce graphical enhancements previously exclusive to the Bedrock version, although average players may not notice significant changes unless using mods. Modders will need to adapt their creations to the new architecture, and Mojang will provide support for them during this migration. The updates will only affect Java Edition, leaving the Bedrock version unchanged.

Mojang Studios is releasing a new Vulkan renderer for Minecraft Java Edition to improve performance, stability, and modern graphical effects. The update, called the Vibrant Visuals update, will begin testing this summer, allowing players to switch between the OpenGL and Vulkan renderers. Players with graphics cards that do not support Vulkan may face challenges with the update.

Efforts are being made to modernize Minecraft: Java Edition by transitioning from OpenGL to Vulkan for rendering. OpenGL, which has been in use since the 1990s, is being phased out due to lack of updates and compatibility issues on macOS. Vulkan, a more modern graphics API, is supported by contemporary Linux and Windows devices and can be used on macOS through a translation layer. This transition aims to enhance graphics and performance while ensuring accessibility across major operating systems. The switch to Vulkan will impact existing mods that rely on OpenGL, requiring modders to update their creations for compatibility. Feedback from the modding community is encouraged, and support will be provided during this transition. Players should be aware that their favorite mods may be affected and will need to be patient as mod authors update them. A testing phase for Vulkan is planned for the summer, allowing players to toggle between OpenGL and Vulkan until stability is achieved. Players will be notified before OpenGL is removed, along with updates to system requirements.

Work is progressing on the Vibrant Visuals update for Minecraft Java Edition, which involves a transition from OpenGL to Vulkan rendering technology. This change, announced by Mojang on February 18th, aims to enhance visual fidelity and performance while maintaining accessibility across various operating systems, including macOS and Linux. Mojang plans to use a translation layer for macOS users due to the lack of direct Vulkan support. Modders are advised to prepare for the transition, as it will require significant effort to update from OpenGL to Vulkan. Mojang encourages modders to move away from OpenGL and utilize internal rendering APIs. The rollout of Vulkan alongside OpenGL is expected to begin in development snapshots "sometime over the summer," allowing players to toggle between the two until Vulkan's performance and stability are confirmed. OpenGL will eventually be phased out.

Cube World is a voxel-based, procedurally generated RPG released in 2019 that failed to meet player expectations due to a lack of engaging content, minimal NPC interaction, and monotonous exploration. The game was criticized for its hollow adventure and mindless combat. In contrast, other titles like Dragon Quest Builders and V Rising successfully combine survival, crafting, and narrative depth. Hytale, developed by Hypixel Studios, aims to learn from Cube World's shortcomings, offering a voxel world with dynamic combat and a promising adventure mode. Hytale features engaging combat mechanics and has a strong focus on modding, with nearly 4,000 user-generated mods available. The game has rekindled interest in the open-world survival crafting genre, standing out as a promising contender.

The RTX Remix Logic feature has launched through an update to the NVIDIA app, allowing modders to trigger graphics effects based on real-time in-game events without needing source code or engine access. There are over 30 in-game events that can serve as triggers, including player state, world bounding boxes, object state, time flow, and input. This feature can manipulate over 900 RTX Remix graphics parameters, such as lighting conditions, weather systems, material properties, post-processing effects, and path-traced volumetrics. A no-code node-based interface enables modders to easily implement this feature. RTX Remix Logic can be integrated into over 165 classic PC games. Additionally, new games supporting NVIDIA's DLSS technologies include Half Sword, which will feature DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, and Code Vein II, along with the free-to-play PvP shooter Highguard, both supporting DLSS Super Resolution.
