Microsoft has released a guide for IT administrators focused on optimizing Windows deployments and reducing bandwidth usage through Windows Delivery Optimization configured via Microsoft Intune. Delivery Optimization uses a peer-to-peer sharing system, allowing devices to download content from each other instead of solely from Microsoft servers, which helps reduce internet strain for organizations with many Windows PCs. Administrators can create specific peer groups based on network topology and control bandwidth usage for downloads, with options to set different limits for business and off-hours. Microsoft also introduced Connected Cache, which stores frequently accessed content locally to further minimize bandwidth consumption. A statistic shared by Microsoft indicates that using Delivery Optimization can significantly reduce internet traffic, as a 1 GB update for 10,000 devices could otherwise generate 10 TB of internet traffic. The guide recommends starting with a small seeder ring of devices to populate peer caches before wider deployment. Microsoft provides specific policy settings for Delivery Optimization, including default and recommended values for settings such as download mode, peer selection, cache size, minimum file size for caching, cache age, and monthly upload data cap. Proper configuration of Delivery Optimization is suggested to benefit organizations managing large numbers of devices.

Xtream Player is a sideloaded Android Auto application that offers stable YouTube access and web browsing capabilities, outperforming previous apps like Fermata Auto and Screen2Auto. It allows users to connect to platforms like Plex, access phone folders, view images, and stream internet radio. The app features fluid swipe navigation and a responsive on-screen keyboard, enabling users to log into their YouTube accounts for personalized content. However, it has a quirky user interface and some glitches, such as a persistent pop-up related to video playback safety. Xtream Player originated as a fork of Fermata Auto and requires users to enable Developer Mode on their Android devices for installation. Users must grant extensive permissions for the app to function properly, raising potential privacy concerns. Official YouTube support for Android Auto is expected later this year.

Google Photos will introduce an "Overnight backup" feature to improve media backup on Android devices, addressing issues caused by background restrictions like Doze mode. Users must keep the app open, connect their device to a charger, and keep the phone unlocked while the screen dims to black during uploads. The feature aims to provide a reliable backup solution for large volumes of media. Users will receive guidance through the process, including reminders to stay on the app and keep the device charged. They can choose to use Wi-Fi or mobile data for backups, with Wi-Fi as the default. The app will alert users if their device overheats during the process and will notify free-tier users nearing storage limits. The feature is not yet available but reflects Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience.
