Ichimura, a former producer of the Dragon Quest series, has left Square Enix due to frustrations with the company's direction, particularly its focus on creating "copycat" games. He proposed innovative ideas, such as a "Dragon Quest Maker," which were dismissed, leading to his departure. Ichimura has since founded a new studio, PinCool, under NetEase Games, where he is developing an asymmetrical multiplayer game called Pritto Prisoner. The Dragon Quest franchise continues to thrive, with the Switch version of the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake achieving significant sales success in Japan. Anticipation for Dragon Quest 12 remains high, despite a lack of updates over the past four years.

The Stop Killing Games initiative has sparked a debate about the discontinuation of live service games, highlighted by the announcement that Anthem will cease operations in early 2026. Mark Darrah, former executive producer of Anthem, expressed regret about the game's fate and suggested that compromises in game design could have allowed it to continue operating. He noted that a less polished version of the game might have been sustainable. Players have also experienced loss, as seen with Ubisoft's The Crew, which was removed from Steam in March 2024. Darrah questions whether the gaming community should accept compromises to prevent beloved games from disappearing, emphasizing the need for a balance between game quality and longevity.

A select group of games remains exclusive to PC, limiting console gamers' access and impacting community growth and developer revenue. Three notable PC-only games are: 1. Arma 3 / Arma Reforger: Developed by Bohemia Interactive, Arma 3 is a tactical sandbox game focused on military realism, emphasizing precision and teamwork. Its successor, Arma Reforger, introduces modern enhancements but remains PC-exclusive. A console adaptation could fill a genre gap and attract console audiences. 2. Counter-Strike 2: This free-to-play first-person shooter builds on the Counter-Strike legacy and is a top performer on Steam. Despite its popularity and the potential for a new player base on consoles, there are currently no plans for a console release. 3. World of Warcraft (WoW): Launched in 2004, WoW is a leading MMO with a vast community. Despite its iconic status, it has not been released on consoles. Modern consoles have the capability to support WoW, and a console version could expand its market reach.
