Skyrim, released in 2011 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, is considered one of the best role-playing games ever made and has been re-released across multiple console generations. The game was developed by Bethesda, following the successes of Morrowind and Oblivion. A vibrant modding community has enhanced the game with new missions, bug fixes, and visual upgrades, primarily available on PC. Skyrim is also included in Xbox Game Pass at no additional cost, making it accessible on nearly every platform.

Baldur's Gate 3 has become one of the most-played titles on Steam since its launch over a year ago, largely due to its rich storytelling and diverse gameplay options. The game features a thriving modding community, supported by Larian Studios through an in-game mod browser. Within the first 24 hours of mod availability on consoles, there were 1.7 million downloads, contributing to a total of 22 million mods downloaded since the release of Patch 7 in early September. Approximately 40% of current players are using mods, with nearly 800 modders actively creating new content and over 2,000 mods uploaded using official tools. Recently, 35 new mods appeared on Nexus Mods and 21 on the official modding site in one day.

Historically, PG games have struggled with High Dynamic Resolution (HDR) management. A new application, NvTrueHDR (RTX HDR), launched earlier this year, is an AI-powered HDR converter by Nvidia that enhances the visual quality of older games lacking native HDR support. It outperforms Windows Auto HDR by providing greater in-game vibrancy. However, using the "Very High" preset may cause a 5-10% frame rate drop on less powerful systems, while lower presets typically do not affect performance significantly. Enabling RTX HDR involves dragging a game's executable file into the RTX HDR window and selecting a preset. The executable for Steam titles can usually be found in the Steam Library directory. The application is free and has been particularly effective for enhancing the HDR experience in games like Red Dead Redemption 2.

Fallout: London, a full conversion mod for Fallout 4, was released on July 24 and achieved over 500,000 redemptions within the first 24 hours on GOG, setting a record for the fastest redeemed game in the platform's history. The mod can be installed on a Steam copy of Fallout 4 but is not available through Steam Workshop or Nexus Mods. Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition is currently the best-selling title on GOG, benefiting from a 60% discount amid the excitement for Fallout: London.

Modded Android games are altered, unofficial versions of published titles that can introduce new details, alter existing items, or unlock things usually gated behind level locks or in-game currency. These modifications can provide users with more control over their gaming experience beyond what the developer intended. However, there is an inherent risk in downloading modded games from third-party sources, as the modder's intentions may not be trustworthy. It is safer to download mods from trusted repositories backed by the developer to avoid potential issues. Popular games like Stardew Valley have dedicated mod loaders and repositories for users to easily search for and install mods.

Nexus Mods has launched alpha testing for a new app, starting with Stardew Valley. The app is currently in early build and only supports Stardew Valley, with more games to be added later. The app is available for Windows and Linux, allowing players to test it on Steam Deck. The app will eventually replace the current mod manager, Vortex. The alpha version of the app allows users to install mods for Stardew Valley on Steam and GOG, log in to their Nexus Mods account, enable and disable mods, roll the game back to a non-modded state, get diagnostic information about common issues, and edit config files in-app.
