Sony plans to significantly reduce the number of first-party single-player titles launched on PC, a decision made in 2025. While some single-player games may still be released on PC, they will be considerably fewer in number. This shift does not extend to live-service and multiplayer games, which may continue to receive investment. There are still single-player PC ports in development, but they are no longer prioritized. Despite some successful PC ports, they have not significantly contributed to Sony's overall revenue. For example, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered peaked at 66,436 players, while its sequel reached 28,189 players. Ghost of Tsushima peaked at 77,154 players, and Horizon Forbidden West and The Last of Us Part II Remastered had peaks of 40,462 and 30,690 players, respectively. The timing of PC releases often lags behind console launches, and Sony is prioritizing hardware sales over a multi-platform strategy. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set to launch on PC on March 19, following a nine-month exclusivity period on PS5, and currently ranks 10th in Steam's Wishlist Activity with 23,412 followers. Titles developed by external studios with ties to PlayStation may not be affected by Sony's new policy.

Sony is shifting its focus away from the PC market for single-player PlayStation games, emphasizing console exclusivity instead. Industry insiders, including Bloomberg's Jason Schreier and Digital Foundry's John Linneman, indicate that exclusive single-player titles may not be released on PC, with Schreier citing the upcoming Wolverine game as a potential example. He noted that Sony has not seen significant commercial success with its single-player titles on PC. While live service games will continue to be released on both platforms, the overall strategy appears to be leaning towards console-centric development. Upcoming titles like Bungie's Marathon and Guerrilla's Horizon multiplayer spinoff will launch simultaneously on PC and consoles. Additionally, there are concerns about potential delays in the launch of the PlayStation 6, possibly pushing it back to 2028 or 2029 due to chip market challenges. Sony recently closed Bluepoint Games, known for remakes, while continuing to operate Nixxes Software, a studio specializing in PC ports.

In 2025, game file sizes have significantly increased, with many exceeding 100 or 200 GB. Arrowhead has reduced the installation size of Helldivers 2 by 85%, from approximately 154 GB to 23 GB, saving around 131 GB. They credited Sony's port-house, Nixxes, for their support but did not disclose specific methods. A public technical beta for the streamlined version is available on Steam, and players can opt in through the game's Properties menu. The reduction in file size will have minimal impact on load times, and there are no functional differences between the legacy and slim versions; all progress and purchases will carry over.
